From TechCrunch Distance discount rate (a gravity model by any other name still smells as sweet).

It seems people report a high value of time.

A study that somehow discovered people's revealed preference as opposed to their stated preference would be much more ... revealing.

It is unclear that the extra travel time included both the time to get the discounting store and return or if the return trip is not included. It is also possible that the operating costs of the transportation could come into play in the individuals decisions.

These different interpretation could lead to very different interpretations on the value of time.
