A New Ulm doctor was accused Friday of stealing prescription pain medication from one of his patients at an assisted living facility, The Pioneer Press reported.

Dr. David Christopher Miller, 59, was charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance by a criminal complaint filed in Brown County, The Star Tribune reported.

Miller visited a vulnerable patient frequently in order to take prescribed Oxycontin and Percocet, the complaint said as reported by The Star Tribune.

Miller had been replacing the patient's medication with acetaminophen, staff said as reported by The Pioneer Press.

Police confronted Miller, finding 56 Oxycontin tablets in his possession and hearing him admit to consuming three, KTOE reported according to the Pioneer Press.
