From the GMR: JCAHO wants feedback on eliminating library standard

Via the GMR list (and a bunch of other lists):

As you may be aware, the JCAHO is in the process of what they are calling a "Standards Improvement Initiative (SII)", which includes the deletion of IM.4.10 (Information-Based Decision Making) and IM.5.10 (Knowledge-Based Information). The elimination of both standards is detrimental to medical libraries, which in turn is detrimental to our patrons providing quality patient care services. Carla Funk and Kathy Stemmer-Frumento, MLA JCAHO Liaison, will be attending the annual Liaison Symposium next month, where we will be discussing this decision. MLA will also be sending a letter to them expressing our concerns with these changes.

In the meantime, please let JCAHO know of your disapproval by completing the proposed changes survey: http://www.jointcommission.org/Standards/SII/sii_im_personal_perspective.htm. Please also include comments in the boxes provided. Just remember to word your comments in a positive way. We are calling on all members to respond, even if you work in an academic library and especially if you are affiliated with a teaching hospital. Encourage your administrators to respond, too.
