The University of South Dakota (USD) is recruiting an experienced librarian to serve as health science and medical information specialist serving the Sanford School of Medicine (SSOM) and the School of Health Sciences.

The USD Libraries are comprised of I.D. Weeks Library, Lommen Health Sciences Library, and Wegner Health Sciences Information Center. This position will support SSOM and Health Sciences programs to include:
medicine, eight allied health science professions with programming ranging from associates to doctoral level. The University of South Dakota is a research institution with quality standards in research and publication. Faculty librarians excel in librarianship, conduct research, publish, and engage in service to the profession. This librarian is responsible for information services, with emphasis on outreach, information and instructional services, and user support.

Specific responsibilities include:
*serving as liaison to health science and medical programs
*providing general reference services, including staffing the USD Libraries reference desk, answering phone and email reference questions, and conducting research consultations
*participating in instructional services, including teaching classes and designing face-to-face and online instructional materials which includes library research techniques, computer-based information systems, the Internet, use of all health science library resources and evidence-based practice
*developing content for the library's Web site
*promoting and evaluating services and resources
*participating in collection development in designated areas
*serving on relevant library-wide committees

Reports directly to the Dean of USD Libraries.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; two years of professional experience in health sciences library or equivalent experience; interest in implementing emerging technologies; evidence of professional involvement within medical or academic librarianship; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to meet university standards in research, publication, and professional service commensurate with tenure requirements.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: Advanced degree in health related field of study. Academic background in health or life sciences; knowledge of evidence based healthcare; experience searching appropriate health related and life sciences research databases and resources such as PubMed; and a record of scholarly publication.

Salary: Beginning salary between $44,000- 59,000 depending on experience.
