Library - Instructor - Student Outreach Services

APPOINTMENT: Negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-Accredited Masters Degree. Demonstrated experience in using technology to provide virtual reference services: email, instant messaging, social networking and chat to library users. Working knowledge of Web 2.0 applications. Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students.
The individual holding this position should possess, in addition to the requisite educational background, superior interpersonal, communication and writing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in working in Libraries and Higher Education. Experience with visual/graphic design, a plus. Experience in providing class-based instruction and reference.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports directly to the Dean of Libraries. As leader of outreach services to undergraduate students explores and evaluates emerging technologies and works closely with University Relations and the Marketing Librarian. Works closely with campus groups such as the Office of Student Affairs and represents the Libraries at student organizations, Discover Western, Student Orientation Advising and Registration programs. Participates in the Libraries Liaison Program to academic departments. Provides class-based and reference-based instruction.

THE DEPARTMENT:WIU Libraries is undergoing a transformation of its services and facilities with its migration toward digital resources and services. WIU Libraries employs 17 faculty and 42 civil service staff in the Leslie F. Malpass Library, 3 on-campus branch libraries and at the WIU-Quad Cities Library. The Libraries' collection includes over 1,000,000 catalogued items, approximately 1,000 periodical print subscriptions, access to over 55,000 full text journals and databases, 300,000 maps and substantial government documents, microforms and non-book materials. The annual budget is $4.5 million.
