The Disaster Information Specialist Project monthly meetings are open to all and may be attended in person or by conference call.
We have a meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2009 (rescheduled from Oct 8), 1:30-3:00 pm (eastern) in the Edward Rhodes Stitt Library at the National Naval Medical Center, 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD. To join by phone, please call 1-888-813-8477 and enter passcode 394248. A separate email will be sent to local participants with directions and logistics.
We are very fortunate to have Dr. Kenneth Schor, Acting Director, and Kandra Strauss-Riggs, Joint Program Coordinator, from the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (NCDMPH) joining us for the meeting. The newly launched NCDMPH was established under Homeland Security Directive 21 (HSPD-21). The Center is actively engaging input from the Federal and non-Federal sectors to develop a cross-boundary disaster medicine and public health education and training collaboration that is cutting-edge, innovative and outcomes focused.
Dr. Schor will share a brief history of the Center and its role as an education center for disaster health preparedness. Following the presentation, he will join us in a discussion about the information needs of the Center, the roles librarians can play in disaster preparedness training and how the Center will transform disaster medicine and public health training and education.
This will be an excellent presentation that your staff or persons in your organization may be interested in attending. Please feel free to invite them and to join us on the phone.
The usual announcements and business items will also be included on the agenda.
I hope you'll be able to join us on the 22nd.
