Press release:
The Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), serving in its role as the Regional Medical Library (RML) for the Greater Midwest Region (GMR) of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), announces the appointment of its Regional Advisory Council.

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) is a network of libraries and information centers in the United States whose mission is to advance the progress of medicine and improve the public health by: 1) providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information; and, 2) improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health. The Network is administered by the National Library
of Medicine (NLM) and is organized into eight regions with Region 3 being designated the Greater Midwest Region (GMR), serving ten states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Members of the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) include health science librarians, health professionals, community librarians, and representatives of other community-based organizations that provide health information. The RAC will advise the RML on developing and implementing programs to improve health professionals' and consumers' access to biomedical information, and will assist the RML in establishing regional priorities. The RAC will also assist with plans to encourage health professionals and health sciences librarians to participate actively in regional and national programs affecting the delivery of health information
