The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library of the Health Sciences seeks a clinical librarian for its Information Services Department.
The clinical librarian serves as an information expert for the University of Illinois Hospital staff including residents, faculty, attending physicians, nurses and students. The clinical librarian will attend hospital rounds, morning report and evidence- based healthcare teaching sessions. Building on a collaborative relationship with clinicians, the librarian will provide immediate information as requested using current technology and resources. The librarian will be called upon to collaborate with researchers on journal clubs, seminars, systematic literature review projects, and other clinical forums. The librarian will be embedded within several hospital departments.
In addition, the librarian will perform general library services including:
- Participating in evidence-based healthcare initiatives
- Providing general reference services including web-based reference and
- research consultations
- Offering instructional services
- Developing and managing relevant research and subject guides using the
- LibGuides system
- Serving on relevant library committees
- Providing staff development to support further expansion of librarians in the clinical arena
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; two years professional experience in either a hospital library or an academic health sciences library or equivalent professional experience; interest in implementing emerging technologies in health education; excellent presentation and relationship building skills; understanding of evidence-based practice; ability to think and react quickly in an intense
clinical environment, and a high level of analytical and searching skills. A health sciences background is preferred.
Hours are mainly from 8:00 to 4:30 PM and may include some weekends and
Faculty status position. Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience. Faculty appointments in the UIC Library begin at $48,000; twelve month appointment with 24 days vacation; 12 annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; paid medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans available; life insurance paid for by the
State; participation in one of the retirement options of the State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage but Medicare payment required; physical examination at University Health Service is required upon appointment.
