From the GMR: Position available: Loyola Univ Chicago Health Sciences Library

Information Services & Instruction Librarian

Loyola University Chicago is a nationally recognized urban university founded in 1870 in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition. The Health Sciences Campus, located in Maywood, IL, is committed to nursing, medical, graduate and post-graduate education. The library and its services support faculty, students and staff of the Stritch School of Medicine and its programs, and the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, creative, and service-oriented librarian to serve as Information Services & Instruction Librarian on a vibrant and growing health sciences campus. The Information Services & Instruction Librarian supports the Loyola University Chicago Health Sciences community with a variety of Information Services that include:


  • distributed research and reference service with a focus on basic sciences and clinical researchers

  • collaboratively design and teach online and on-site library instruction

  • plan and participate in outreach to promote and expand library service to internal and external communities

  • participate in the maintenance and improvement of the library website based on usability studies and customer and staff feedback



The successful candidate will:

  • demonstrate proficiency with biomedical resources

  • demonstrate proficiency in teaching information skills

  • value and model outstanding customer services skills

  • possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Drupal, HTML and various web editors, and CSS

  • appreciate the ability to work independently and in a team-based environment

  • demonstrate outstanding written and oral communication skills

  • possess an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent and an undergraduate or advanced degree in the life sciences

  • consistently demonstrate flexibility, a sense of humor, and a strong commitment to outstanding customer service
