SLA Chapter Volunteer Event at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Posted on behalf of the MN Chapter of SLA....

Chapter Volunteer Event at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Come volunteer, meet other local library association members and spend the day at the Science Museum.

Don't miss our 3rd annual volunteer event! We'll be helping out at The Science Museum of Minnesota and welcome members of any library associations to participate.

The Science Museum of Minnesota's mission is to "turn on the science: realizing the potential of policy makers, educators, and individuals to achieve full civic and economic participation in the world."

Volunteers are needed to prep items to be used on the floor and in classrooms. Depending on what classes and activities they have on the floor in October, you could be cutting plastic bottles, making buttons, hot gluing -- you name it.

The Science Museum is also in need of these items that you can bring with on the day of the event:

  • non-carbonated water bottles (these are the ones with very thin plastic you can easily crush)

  • 16-20 oz. soda/pop bottles

  • caps for both of these types

As part of our volunteer experience, the Science Museum has a group scavenger hunt and will also provide us with free wristbands for the day.

GMR/blog contact while Liz Weinfurter is on leave

Hello all,

As many of you know, I'm expecting a baby girl any day now. I'll be taking a three month maternity leave, which will run approximately next week through the end of November.

While I'm gone, Lisa McGuire will be posting GMR messages on my behalf, and if you have anything you would like posted to the blog you can contact Lisa directly (lmcguire@umn.edu). Just a reminder that any member can post directly to the HSLM list serve - hslm@uic.edu. Doing so will send out an email to all members, it just won't be available/searchable on the blog.

Let me know if you have any questions, and Lisa will take good care of GMR stuff while I'm gone!
