Continuing Education Workshops: Screencasting: Creating Online Tutorials or Scholarly Communication Issues
Health Sciences Libraries of Minnesota Annual Meeting
We are pleased to announce that HSLM will offer a choice of two continuing education workshops at Metropolitan State University on Friday, June 4, 2010. These workshops are co-sponsored by Health Sciences Libraries of Minnesota (HSLM) and Metropolitan State University's Library and Information Services. Participants will be able to register for one of the following two workshops:
Screencasting: Creating Online Tutorials
Max Anderson, Technology Coordinator, Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
This course's main goal is to teach librarians best practices for creating effective screencasts (video-based online instruction modules) using Camtasia. Student learning outcomes for this face-to-face workshop include: the ability to determine how to get the most from your screencasts; learning how to divide content into logical chunks that are most appropriate for online learners; an understanding of best practices for creating content for their topic (e.g. storyboarding, script writing, and voiceover/narration); an understanding of what hardware and software tools work best for which content (and best sources for acquiring needed tools); and the ability to assess the effectiveness of screencasted content. Please note: enrollment for this workshop will be capped at twenty participants and is open to HSLM members only.
Issues in Scholarly Communication for Health Sciences Librarians
Wayne Loftus, Pharmacy Librarian and Web Services Coordinator at the Health Sciences Libraries, University of Minnesota
Nancy Sims, Copyright Program Librarian, University of Minnesota Libraries

Hello HSLM members,
At the meeting on Friday, several of you mentioned that you weren't able to download the minutes from the November 2008 Board meeting. I double-checked and was able to download them fine here, and it doesn't appear that they reside in our U of M-specific file server (Netfiles) so there shouldn't be any permissions problems.
If you were having problems, could you try again and let me know what error message you're getting, if you're unable to download the PDF? That will help me troubleshoot and hopefully solve the problem. The original blog entry is here: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/lmcguire/hslm/2009/06/hslm_meeting_minutes_from_1120_1.html
Let's put the error messages in the comments feature on the blog, so that people can see each others' answers.
Thanks!
Liz
