Google Accelerator is a product from Google that allows you to surf the web faster. This sounds great, but we've discovered that using GA could result in problems when you are doing research with our licensed content.
Once you are using GA, it gives your computer an IP number in Google's range, rather than maintaining your U of M IP address. This is the tricky part, if you try to connect to an e-journal or online index via a link on our homepage, it'll look like you are coming in through Google and not the U of M and you'll be denied access.
Google Accelerator does have a mechanism for you to turn it off or to tell it to "don't accelerate these sites." However, in practice, we've found out that this is not reliable -- our recommendation is to not use Google Accelerator at all.
