Pablo Picasso, born in 1881 in Spain, is an artist I have always been interested in. His most recognizable works have dealt with figures and settings in the cubist style, something he was accredited with creating.

He worked with painting and drawing and prints, all of which are mediums that I enjoy working with.
I look up to Picasso and his style because he and it were so revolutionary. I am really interested in replicating certain aspects that he accomplished so well. His work is so cool I really like it.

Zhang Xiaogang, a 20th century chinese painter, uses exaggerated faces in many of his paintings to identify with his home culture of collectivism. His paintings were interesting to me, but I would enjoy them more if there was more substance. He uses bits of color to emphasize certain points in the portraits he paints, which is a technique I think is cool because it provokes more thoughts in my head.
Most of his paintings are done entirely in grayscale with the hint of color, so they appear to be older than they actually are. They seem to be surreal, which is the only art movements from the 20th century that still exists in the art world today.

The current exhibition at the Nash Gallery is a watercolor collection featuring work by John Salminen. His work, which depicts urban areas and places of commotion, is entirely watercolor based and uses great detail. He uses gouache as well, which is an opaque style of watercolor painting.

He paints many hours a day and has a passion for the arts. His work correlates to his love for music in many ways, as he is a jazz saxophonist as well as a painter. His work was interesting to me because it took away my belief that watercolors were typically bland and washed out, and not very appealing to my eye.

Andy Warhol is an American artist who was a prominent figure in the Pop-Art movement in the United States. He contributed a new aspect to art; replication of pieces and displaying them in a certain way to achieve a more direct feel. His art, some of which was reproductions of popular culture images, struck many people because of how new and unique it was.
Warhol did not always do the work himself. For many of his works, he had a workshop which people would reprint his things for him. Most of the credit was given to Warhol, and many people do not even know that he was not the creator of some of it.
His work really went along with his idea of 15 minutes of fame, a concept which he came up with.

This project reflects my childhood passion of fishing. I used to think it was cool when fish jumped out of the water. Actually, that's a horrible description.. This is just a quick flash animation that I made because I thought it would be cool.
