Assignment for Mon., Feb. 21
Translate up to line 153 in Pyramus and Thisbe.
Remember, there's a test on Wednesday; everything we've translated in class so far is up for grabs.
For next Friday, please read the Rhorer article, available on e-reserves (see the link in the earlier post, you'll need the password I gave out in class), or in the classics library (Folwell 305). You can also find this article in the periodicals section in the basement of Wilson Library. The citation is Catherine Rhorer, "Red and white in Ovid's Metamorphoses," Ramus 9 (1980) 79-88.
If you're interested in reading about the simile of the broken pipe, you might take a look at the following article: Carole Newlands, "The Simile of the Fractured Pipe in Ovid's Metamorphoses 4." Ramus 15 (1986) 143-153. Unfortunately, this article isn't available online, but I'll put it on reserve in the classics library (Folwell 305).

Yet another update of the meter handout
Unfortunately, there's no good way to actually mark long and short syllables in the scanning examples, but you should be able to do that yourself by now.
