Needles and Notebooks

Sunday evening I made this little pincushion, following the tutorial from Whipup. It was pretty cinchy except for the fact that I am horrible at slipstitching! Luckily it is only a couple of inches and gets covered by the blanket stitch edging anyhow.

I bought these massive pins the other day and I think I am going to have to make a larger cushion to accomodate their length.

In not-so-low-tech news... I bought a laptop! Since J will be needing his computers back when he ventures off into the East, I threw down a bunch of money on a new MacBookPro + printer + ipod nano (that is for J). The last two have mail in rebates, so that is a nice bonus. I was really nervous making such an investment, since all of my computers have been PCs that were basically hand-me-downs from my father. I also got a snazzy new laptop bag from Tom Bihn to keep it nice and safe. Everything has shipped but the computer itself. How long will they make me wait for the thrill of new technology?! With it, I will surely be able to conquer the WORLD!

Hi again! Do you mind me asking (maybe the answer to my question is somewhere in one of your posts), did you design the pattern for the Greendress, or was it a vintage one or something? And the '52 dress? I'm coveting them.

They are both vintage reissues from Butterick and should be pretty easy to find. The Greendress is Butterick 4792 (originally from 1957)and the red is Butterick 4790 (1952 of course!). They were both pretty simple, if a bit fidgety in certain areas. The green would have gone smoother if I hadn't sewn the front part of the bodice completely backwards the first time and the waist on the red is pretty tiny, so I used bias tape to extend the button area a bit.

As for pattern drafting, I can't even imagine it! Maybe one day...

Thanks! I'll look for them.

Now that some time has elapsed 'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the quality of your Tom Bihn laptop bag. They look great, and I'm happy that they're made here in the US (Seattle). The checkpoint friendly models are very hot right now... easy to understand if you've ever been forced to go through TVA's new security checkpoints.
