Latest Incarnation
Ok, here's the latest version of the dress. This one has: new bodice with no interfacing (works much better!!), slim sash (too slim?), and I'm actually wearing some sort of bra in this picture. I will get a fancy new one for the real deal. It is being held together by a pin and the sash on the left, so if it is skewed looking, that is why.

Question, why does there seem to be so much extra fabric width-wise right below your waistline. I noticed this in the Vogue muslin too. You are (at least) one size smaller in that area.

It's actually a little wider than a typical A-line; I don't think there is really too much fabric there. It seems pretty ok when I'm not trying to hold it all weird for a photo. I will reevaluate before putting the zipper in and see if it needs a couple inches shaved off. Seems weird to me that a dress would be too wide in the hips for me since my hips/rear are not exactly of the slender variety. Also, I cut this down to a 10 instead of my normal 12. Strange.

I guess I should have clarified: the area I'm talking about is between the waist and the fuller area of the hips. It's that part that when you rest your hands at your waist and spread your fingers out, that area where your fingers would rest (does this even have a name?)
It also doesn't really seem that big on this dress but seems like more fabric on the Vogue dress (my favorite, by the way.)I love how the Vogue dress is able to showcases your shoulders and frame your face at the same time.
You're doing such a great job.

I wandered over here from DressADay...so I don't know you...but I have to say, I think this dress is fantastic!
With the thin sash and smooth bodice, it is perfect, the best of all!! Elegant, different, beautiful.
Good luck and congratulations!
S.
PS: I was making my wedding dress this time last year!

You might want to get the fancy bra now. It is crazy how that will affect the fit. No use trying to get it perfect without then realizing you have to get it perfect with the bra.
The combo is gorgeous.

I like it a lot...though I have to say, I am still totally in love with the first dress. Maybe you should have a few weddings, and just wear all of them. J can always wear a different tie :)

This looks much better than the last one, especially in the bodice! I like the thinner belt, but maybe not that thin? Also, I second the suggestion to buy the schmancy bra now - it's essential to getting the fit right, especially in a strapless dress (can reshape your boobs :).

I made a slightly wider belt (2in... the one above is only about 1 in!) and ordered the bra yesterday :D

I think this looks fabulous on you. Are you wearing shoes? Maybe you can get a better sense of how the skirt part will drape if you put on the shoes you'll be wearing on your big day. This has inspired me to start thinking about potentially making my own dress too.
