omgadress!
Ok, folks. Here she is!

I'm not wearing the jewelry (gotta save something for the day, no?) and I think I'll have on my normal black glasses instead of these red ones (even though I bought them especially for the dress), but other than that -- this is my weddin' dress! You can't see the birdcage veil too well against the red armoire, but it is cute. I will take the flower off my dress and use it to hold my hair instead during the reception.
Would a tutu be better? How is the hoopskirt? Too obvious? I won't hem it until after I know for sure. Thoughts anyone?!

Wow, a red wedding dress, I love it. Very unique for sure. :):):):) I think that without the hoop skirt the fabric would just hang, flat. It needs the hoop skirt to give it some body.
Love the idea of a red wedding dress.
Hugs,
Lory

Thank you! I definitely need something under there. The hoop feels weird, but it will probably work better than the long tutu I had in mind. Also, it keeps the fabric off my legs, which will be very important come August!

i've been reading for a while, and this is my first time commenting - had to tell you your dress is gorgeous! Job well done, and it looks fabulous on you. I like the hoopskirt, it gives the dress a nice fullness. If you think you'd be more comfortable in a tutu though, go with that. But if the hoopskirt will keep you cooler... Basically, as long as you have something under there to poof out the fabric, I don't think you can go wrong with this dress!

I love it!
The fit in the bodice looks perfect now.
The hoopskirt is my vote. In August, the tutu will drive you to distraction, no matter how soft, it's just too much fabric. How does it feel to sit down in?
I also say go with the red glasses only because you can see your eyes much better, which I think is important on a wedding day especially. I wear glasses too but sometimes I want people to see my eyes first, glasses second and with these I didn't even know you were wearing any.
You did such a great job. Congratulations!

Meeeeeow! Trés chic!
Have you and J. decided on a last name yet?

I felt compelled by the dress to comment. I think it looks fantastic, I would stick with the hoop and the length. I also love the tulle headpiece. I'm sure the jewelery will look great too.
The only thing I'm not convinced of is the sash. The dress has such clean lines while the sash seems like it would be more at home on a less structured dress. What about a fabric belt with a fabulous buckle? Or a fabric belt with a structured bow? Or maybe if you went with black...
Anyway great work, you will make a stunning bride!

That is an interesting idea, Ariana. I, too, have thought about making a little red belt or going without. The blue (it always looks white in my pix, but it will surely come out its real color in the professional ones!) is my other wedding color and is the same material that 1/2 of my bouquet will be. I will probably put the bow in back and make it straighter! I was worried that the right side seam looked lumpy, but it will be fine uncovered. Taryn can fix it up nice for me. She always had to redo my sashes when we worked together because my knots were wobbly.
Oh and we picked Grey! (thats what my last name means in welsh)

I hate to tell you this (because I know it could cause experimentation), but when it's not a short, classical ballet tutu, tulle is really easy to work with and tutus are all just math (the short ones are really easy too, other than the inserted hoops, which aren't that hard--they just take _forever_ because you're both gathering and pleating hundreds and hundreds of yards). With a long one for that kind of shape, you'd be looking at a decent amount of fabric (but tulle isn't horrendously expensive when you take into account the widths it comes in--the cheap stuff, if you're not worried about seeing it, is incredibly cheap at about $.52 a yard for 72" wide, and you can mix it with the nice stuff against your legs), and it'd just be squares gathered at your waist...I am in general anti hoopskirt without a petticoat, because you tend to see the rings (I don't see that in your picture, but I'm not sure how it moves)...but it all looks beautiful, in general. Well done.

It is gorgeous! Love the hoopskirt, wear it! That dress is seriously amazing.

I'm not sure about the hoopskirt...I think it definitely needs something, but I feel like I can see the rings...but the dress looks totally fab! (And I'll totally help you tie your sash when I get there;)

That might actually be the grain of the fabric, but I have been considering making another layer out of the blue silk (basically just an elastic waist a-line skirt) to hide any possible rings.

The second layer would be all you'd need against hoops showing (I use petticoat cause it's technical for period gear, but that's what you're describing). And the blue peaking out occasionally when you moved could be fun. Love it, overall. I'm so excited :).

Beautiful. The hoopskirt is not too obvious. It all looks very good and the proportions of the dress on you are fabulous.

Ah my dear villian,
Your are so amazing--that dress is an absolute stunner. I'm so impressed with your wonderful stitching grooviness.
Thanks for always making my day with your great creations!

It looks absolutely gorgeous!! (If you haven't already decided, I think you should wear the hoop underneath, it looks really neat!)

So late to the party here, but HOLY BAJEEBUS that dress is absolutely stunning! The red is so glamorous -- can't wait to see pics of the ceremony (if you plan to post them, of course)!
