A Tiny Guest!

Chez Villain has a new occupant, at least for now. We are being visited by a little mouse whom we have named Gloria. I know people get all icky about mice, but I think she (he?) is really cute. So itty bitty! I'm sure I'll change my tune when I find mouse leavings in the cupboard, but as long as she stays over by my desk, I'm ok with sharing the space. It is like a trial run before I get that ferret I've been wanting for so long! (But can't have because of lease) I'm trying to convince J that we should get a cage for Gloria if we ever catch her. I got some live traps yesterday, but I have a feeling that she is not going to be fooled. Oh well. See you around, mousterton!

I wanted to get a picture of her, but she is too darned fast!

Be warned. Ferrets are still stinky, even if you get them de-stinked. But they are like having a kitten forever.

wild mice and domestic mice are two very different creatures! i am pro sharing space, but just keep your eyes peeled. often it's not just one mouse!

I have done this! I have caught and kept mice before. The best way is to take a bucket or large pail or somthing like that and tape paper over the top of it, cut an "X" into the paper so it looks flat but if u press on the middle of the "X" is pushes in and makes four triangle shapes, now make sure it looks solid and put some small crumbs or cheese etc in the center being careful to keep it flat looking. I have ALWAYS been successful with this approach. then, just keep it like you would a petstore mouse, only DON"T overfeed it. I guess after generations of captivity, pet store mice no when to say when, wild ones, not so much. I actually killed one this way, but at least he went with a happy little bloated smile. The only downfall to the wildmouse as pet, is lyme disease. Really scary.

God, I just read all these things about NOT keeping a wild mouse, including the HANTA virus, which I forgot about, so I felt I better add that, I would feel bad if u caught it kept it and got hurt. I like ur blog, tho :)
