Join Us for the February First Fridays
Virtue & Vice in the Stacks: Kindness & Envy
Friday, March 5, 2010
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
Room 120, Elmer L. Andersen Library
Kindness and Envy
Presented by Kathy Allen, Andersen Horticultural Library (AHL)
The wealth of the garden can inspire kindness through sharing the fruits of labor. It can also inspire envy - which neighbor has the plumpest pumpkin, the most delightful dahlias? Kathy Allen will share the range of beauty contained in AHL's historic nursery and seed catalog collection, one of the largest in the country.
Envy
Presented by Jean McElvain, Goldstein Museum of Design
History has revealed an enduring desire to feel chic and dress luxuriously. Objects from the Goldstein Museum of Design's collection will be used to highlight the power that clothing can have over our senses, the status ascribed to those who dress richly, and the envy that others' clothing can elicit in us.
Also, this Friday at 1:00 pm, following the talk, staff from Andersen Library will be available to give tours of the caverns below the public building.
