Description:
"Scrubbed Into Fashion" is a collaborative event produced by the U of MN Medical School Student Council and FAB: Fashion and Business group. The event is a fashion show where 6 designers from the University of Minnesota will take basic scrubs and use them as their material to make a couture (Avant Garde) clothing item as well as its reflective ready-to-wear garment. It is going to be a "Project Runway" like competition where the designers will be judged by local members of the fashion industry and hosted by season 6 Project Runway contestant, Christopher Straub and local TV celebrity of ShopNBC, Lisa Roberts.
Furthermore, the event is a benefit to raise awareness and funds for a local charitable organization "Smile Network". This Minnesota-based group travels the world to perform cleft lip/palate, and other reconstructive surgeries for underprivileged citizens (mostly children) in developing countries. On average they are able to assist nearly 100 people per mission trip, and have multiple trips per year. The cost of an average trip is approximately $50,000, and our goal of this event is to raise as much as possible to assist this group with an upcoming mission trip. All the money raised at the event will be given to this group.
