Vikes Reach Championship Game

maas.jpg

The Vikings go three out of four late in the season. Their defense ranks in the lower portion of the league. They lose to Washington in the last game of the season yet squirm into the playoffs as a wild card. The playoff schedule starts on the road and most likely will stay on the road. Las Vegas pegs the Vikes as a 75 to 1 shot to even make the Super Bowl. Players are sick with the flu.

Oh, wait. I'm not talking about this season. The season is 1987 and the Vikes rolled over the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers before bowing to the Redskins in the 1987-88 NFC Championship game.

Who's to say it couldn't happen again? A couple of players get hot such as Wade Wilson, Hassan Jones, and Anthony Carter did in 1987 anything can happen!

There is only one problem to your scenario in my opinion. We don't have a quarterback like Wade Wilson who had the ability to think on the field. He may have been slow but he had a lot more in his head and was less prone to mistakes than Daunte. We had a head coach in Jerry Burns who didn't have to defend his job after every game and was able to light a bigger fire under his players than Tice ever seems to do. And you didn't have the egos of Randy Moss, Michael Bennett, and Daute getting his roll on. (I'd rather see him doing the Icky shuffle.)

So until the Vikes are humbled yet again and we see more improvement in the defense, I don't expect the 'Queens even to make the playoffs. And will probably be happier if they didn't so we just end the embarrasment of this season, get Red to sell the team, and start going after Free agents to help bolster up the defense.

JMHO,
Bill
