Note: If you are looking for the Mini Camp reports, look to the right nav bar and you'll find direct links.
Also, I'd like to take a little roll call and ask a question of the readers. If you haven't already done so, by using the Comment link at the end of this blog entry, leave what city and state you are from. I'd sure love to know if there are Vikings fans in all 50 states. And leave your country if you are outside of America. Also, would you like to see me change the site to a white background with dark purple font...or leave it the way it is. Thanks for your time!
I don't have a lot of time to write anything concrete today....there's that stupid W-O-R-K thing again that keeps interrupting my life. But then, only twenty-two more years to retirement.....then look out!
And I dare say I've given you enough good entries for the past few days. So here are some quick, inane ramblings.
Rambling One
What is with this town/state not supporting ANY friggin' stadium bill? As one person said in the STrib today, "Is a penny on a martini downtown too much to ask for in exchange for having a state-of-the-art facility that we can showcase to the rest of the country?"
Amen! And with the number of martini's I've had the damn stadium could have been built already on me alone!
I could actually make a long post out of the whole stadium thing today...but the clock is ticking and besides, the Greet Machine does it better than anyone.
Rambling Two
The other day I'm driving along listening to The Current and a song by The Streets comes on and I'm like, "What in the name of Judas Priest is this shit?"
But then I heard it again the other day and fell in love with it. The song is Dry Your Eyes, off the A Grand Don't Come For Free CD. I've now added it to my iTunes library. Give it a try.
It's almost a concept type album just based on the way it is presented to the listener. A Grand Don't Come For Free is basically a day in the life of Mike Skinner. He takes us on very personal, sometimes tough excursion into his mind as well as his surroundings. Rarely does an artist paint such vivid verbal imagery, but from the moment you put it on, you're right there with him.
The single, Dry Your Eyes, plays out like a painful, yet public break-up. And you happen to be sitting next to them. Good stuff....and the accent makes it all work.
Rambling Three
While the Vikings mini-camp is clicking along in high-gear, the Packer's mini-camp can't even seem to get out the door. Check out the fine Oracle of Cheese for further insight.
Rambling Four
To all those that didn't WANT the Vikes to draft Matt Jones...you were right! Pro Football Talk posted this on their site:
Barely a week after Arkansas receiver Matt "Moonshine" Jones was taken by the Jags with the 21st overall pick in the draft, there are concerns emanating out of Jacksonville that the athletically freakish Jones could end up being a major tease.
Some folks in and around the Jags program believe that Jones will be "a Shockey-like" player who "wants all the publicity but will be a tease on the field."
Jones' decision to sit out most of the team's initial minicamp practices due to a pulled hamstring prompted some to conclude that he's "already acting like a pussy."
Jones wowed scouts at the Combine with his size and speed, but he has been dogged by questions regarding his commitment to the game. And even if he's capable of running a 4.37 even without putting in hours of training time, there's a certain overall ethic necessary to be successful in the NFL -- and that ethic requires among other things guys to push through the discomfort of a tweaked hamstring.
Whew! To think what mighh have been! And "Moonshine" Jones missed a third straight practice with a strained hamstring.
Don't Forget to Vote
Voting is now open in the second week of the Best Vikings Draft Choice Ever Tournament. Last week you voted to take the field of sixty-four down to thirty-two. Who will make the Sweet Sixteen!?!?!
The second round ends 5/5 at 12:10:00 AM. And you can vote multiple times. And invite others to vote!
Some of you have told me of difficulty reaching the voting site and I assure you the link is working but I will agree that it is very slow at times. Be patient! You will get through!

LIFE WITH THE WIFE
Being a man, I've never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differs so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing.
I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart. I have never figured out why the sexual desire gene gets thrown into a state of turmoil, when it hears the words "I do."
FOR EXAMPLE:
One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says "I don't Feel like it, I just want you to hold me."
I said "WHAT????! ! ! What was that?!"
So she says the words that every husband on the planet dreads to hear."You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?"
Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night I went to sleep. The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take so I told her we'll just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said lets get a pair for each outfit. We went on to the jewelry department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings.
Let me tell you .she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck! I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis.
I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey".
She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all dear, let's go to the cashier".
I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it."
Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled, "WHAT??? ! ! ! "
I then said, "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for awhile. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman. "
And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the THINGS that I buy you?"
Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either...
Geoff, Vikings fan from Orem, UT. My father grew up in Duluth and I have family in Chaska and St. Paul. Was born and raised out here in Utah but always been a loyal Vikes fan. Ill be flying out for the home opener against Tampa Bay in Septmeber!!!!
As a side note, we are having trouble here in Utah getting a stadium done for our new MLS team Real Salt Lake. They are playing in the University of Utah football stadium for now.

Posted by: James B. at May 3, 2005 12:43 PMViking fan here in the middle of Bills, Jets, and Giants country (Endicott, NY). Been a Vikings fan since 1970 when I was 5 years old. The Viking horn and the purple and gold made me a fan, not to mention the Purple People Eaters. Saw the Vikings vs Buffalo back in the mid 80's...one of the greatest days of my life !! Would love to plan a mini-vacation to the Metrodome and live the whole experience. You Viking fans in Minnesota don't know how lucky you are !! One comment about the team.....would love to see the white away jerseys changed back to the old style, with the stripes on the sleeve, not the shoulder...and bring back the purple pants !!

Power to the Purple!
Posted by: Mark Shcherban at May 3, 2005 01:27 PMGrew up near Green Bay but always have bled purple. Our family owns Packer season tickets so I have always been the outcast. But it was great last year in Lambeau for that Playoff game. I was in the endzone where all the Moss antics happened. It was a great time!!! Now I reside in southern Wisconsin, in Janesville.

Great job on the mini camp reports.
Posted by: Gendo at May 3, 2005 10:46 PMI cover two areas with my comment. (A) Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. Born and raised a Vikings fan, and I am proud to say I have no significant relatives who call themselves Packer fans.
(B) Kailua, Hawai'i. These two locations are very unique. If there is any other Vikings fan from either place who reads this, send me and e-mail and we can talk about the glory of the VIKINGS!!
Posted by: Cayman Shutter at May 4, 2005 01:44 AMHaving been born in Cheese-land, I was ever so glad that my parents had the good sense to move to St. Paul in '57, where I remained until a career move took me to PA, where I remain. Is Gilbertsville as nice as the Twin Cities? nope, but it's not as friggin' cold either!
Posted by: Mark at May 4, 2005 07:27 AMGreat site with excellent observations of the MN Viking world. I live in Sisseton, SD, and the Viking news coverage from the twin cities on the WCCO station is pitiful at best. So, your site is a welcomed relief for those of us residing in nearby states who want better coverage of the Vikings. Thank you for all the good work put into keeping us fans up-to-date on our favorite team!
Posted by: Michael Selvage at May 4, 2005 04:01 PMLOL at the wife comments. I agree. Sex is one big joke thrust upon men and women. Why cant women just love men for who they are?
Jones will not be a bust I dont think. Hes too skilled.
