Zygi For President

You know, the Vikings off-season is really starting to piss me off. Here, I thought I would relax this off-season and maybe update this blog every couple of weeks. Maybe do some NFL Draft review and post some photos from mini-camp and then wait for training camp.

I had BIG plans for this downtime as far as home projects and getting caught up on my reading...science fiction, travel logs, British history, and gardening books in case you were wondering.

And not only that, this week I started the mother of all projects and then the sale goes through and I'm burning the midnight candle once again. But the project, to be discussed here in great length Friday, is on track so I can afford to spend a few minutes talking about our new owner.

So, instead of downtime we have one of the most exciting off-seasons in the history of the franchise. From Moss being traded to The Whizzinator we've had quite an exciting few months, haven't we?

Perhaps the most significant event happened today when the NFL owners approved by a 32-0 vote the transfer of the Vikings from Red McCombs to Zygmunt "Zygi" Wilf.

The first words out of our new owners mouth was that Zygi hopes to put the Vikes in a new stadium without a dome. My first thought was, "Where the hell do I find a purple snowmobile suit for the January playoff games?"

But this was music to my ears. On May 19, I had told you that Zygi's first order of business was to settle this stadium issue....or we lose the Vikes to L.A.

But, right out of the gate Zygi is talking my language. I want all you old-timers from the 60's and 70's to think about this a moment. I mean really, really think back to the years when the Vikes had a strong, God-fearing defense, a power running approach, and a team and coach that loved to play in some of the worst weather conditions seen in the history of the NFL. The look on those Los Angeles Rams players as they came onto the field at Met Stadium...the field surrounded by huge snow drifts piled there under orders from Bud Grant.

Isn't that where we belong? Outdoors?

HELL YA!!!!

"I'm a strong believer in an open venue," Wilf said. "From the standpoint of the franchise, I think that it is a good advantage to have some of the other teams come up to our nice, warm Minnesota winters, so they can enjoy playing football up where it hurts -- a la Green Bay."

Ah, note to Zygi.....we here in these parts don't make any reference to those turds across the border unless it is to mock them. We now continue......

And truth be told that former (doesn't that have a nice ring?) owner McCombs is handing over the reins to a team in far better appearance than when he was the rookie owner. There is a strong, God-fearing defense, a power running approach, and a team and coach that love to play in some of the worst weather conditions seen in the history of the NFL. Such as when they stomped the Packers ass into the ground this past January (see how the whole Packer mock thing is done Zygi?).

And for those who recall Joe Kapp, this years version of the Vikings features an abhorrently underrated franchise quarterback who should be everyone's early favorite for league MVP honors.

And while we did not end up with an African American at the helm, Zygi is Jewish. And I love that to no end.

My Jewish friends from the East coast have already been sending me some pretty hilarious stuff...most of which I will not print here as I want to get onto Zygi's good side.

But one promotional idea I had to pass along was opening the season with Dreidel Give-Away Day! OK, that was for all the South Park fans out there....you know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, move on. It's a joke people! (All degoratory remarks can be e-mailed to me and I apologize ahead of time.)

All kidding aside, Zygi we love you. You are our guy. Get the stadium issue resolved and we will come to think of you as our own.

Welcome, Zygi. Welcome.

Oh, and dump those Giants season tickets already!

Yep. The reign of terror is over.

I think that there a lot of other Jewish owners. Kraft (has a stadium named after him in Israel and recently brought the Lombardi trophy over there); Hess (Jets); Lurie (Philly); Modell (Baltimore) are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I hope that as a follower of the Giants he has learned how to overacheive and win championships with the right pieces. The Giants have really been one of the model NFL franchises. Glad he was not a New Orleans fan or Houston or some other team steeped in futility.

I am disappointed that Glen Taylor did not become part of this, but from what I have read, this guy has a philathropic heart and not the cold heart of the red-headed car salesman.
