SHOUT OUT! Friday

galmove.gif

And here we go with the eleventh edition of SHOUT OUT! Friday. Let me know if you liked SHOUT OUT! Friday by leaving a Commment at the end of this entry. And if you didn't, you can still leave one! Or if you'd like to give someone a personal SHOUT OUT! just e-mail me and I'll consider it for the following week.

I'm actually just back from the Windy City. I love Chicago. I just wish I would have had time to enjoy it as this was a business trip. One of those rah-rah team meetings that also had us going from 7 in the morning to 10:30 at night. Oh, I did pop out of the hotel when I could to enjoy the sunshine and architecture during breaks. I hate being confined!

Perhaps even worse than confinement is being in lock-down in a hotel that had no high speed internet. I had hoped to keep up the blog from Chicago but it was not possible given the dial-up only choice.

While in Chicago, I was phoned by the Mankato Free Press for an interview. No, it was not about the fees for training camp, but just blogging in general. I'll let you know if/when that story appears.

And speaking of training camp, new owner Zygi Wilf gets this weeks first SHOUT OUT! Wilf has donated the money necessary to keep Vikings training camp free. Nice, very nice. I'm sure the same issue will rise in 2006, and every year forward until such time that the training facility is found slightly north of the Twin Cities instead of south. This relationship between the team and Mankato is only going to worsen in the coming years.

A SHOUT OUT! to super agent Drew Rosenhaus who has given the Vikes a lock on the NFC North and NFC, period. Rosenhaus represents the Packers Javon Walker and Eagles Terrell Owens, both of whom are likely to sit out training camp.

A hungry SHOUT OUT! to Ryan Madera for supplying pizza at work Thursday evening.

A reverse SHOUT OUT! to our guy, Mensa Mike Tice. According to my close, personal friend Sid Hartman, Tice said he couldn't understand all the concern about NFL scouts covering the team if admission was charged to training camp. "I would have moved what practice we thought could help any the opposition to the field nearest the dormitory, where nobody could see," Tice said. Aw, hell. I was going to make a mint renting out binoculars to the scouts. But now that camp is free of charge.....

In this past weeks podcast, I mentioned that I'd be posting a photo of a person you would never expect to see sporting a cheesehead. Well, a SHOUT OUT! to Ron and Paul of my very own company for this practical joke played on me after the season last season. The resident Packer fans of New Jersey did not like my reference of LamBUTT field after the Moss moon and were gunning for me. But the Vikes will have the last laugh again this year!

Sorry for the short SHOUT OUT! post. Still playing catch-up from my time in the Windy City. See you Monday for another podcast!

So you were in Chicago...hear any local stuff on the Bears? Don't they have any players represented by Drew Rosenhaus?

On a different note, I like the Shout Out Friday but truly enjoy the various links you put in the blog - Thanks!

One last thing, why do the Vikes start training camp so much later than our NFCN counterparts (the last by a week)? I mean other than the obvious that we are so superior to the other NFCN teams that we don't need as much practice... :)

And if you get a chance we would all love to see updated photos of the refurbished Viking ship at HQ when it is ready :)

Swobo: I had hoped to interview some of the "locals" for a podcast but I had very little time due to scheduled business mtgs. What I hope to do this coming season is to speak to one of the fellow HOF fans from each city leading into the coming game. I think everyone will enjoy that.

And yes, I already plan to get over to Winter Park within the week to take some updated photos of the boat!

Checked out the podcast, pretty cool. I loved the Wisconsin guy talking on the latest podcast. Pretty funny since I live in Wisconsin...

I was discussing Wilf's decision to pay the fees with a co-worker and he made the statement that Red would have NEVER done that. Of course. He also said it shows that Wilf is a better businessman.

I countered with this. Wilf is just using a different business model. The former owner was a used car salesman... buy low and flip the asset for a profit with minimal investment. That's pretty much how he treated the Vikings.

Wilf is a developer. Invest wisely to improve the value of your assets. I hope that he both continues to invest in his asset and reaps big rewards.

Mark,
Glad to see that you know quality when you hear it. I'm sure COD will bring me back, with the masses clamoring for it, it's inevitable.
