Wish List

Earlier this week I asked you whether the Vikes should start building from seed or try to build by buying established players. With that in mind, these are players with four years or more of experience who aren't under contract for 2006. It doesn't take into account voidable years or team options to extend contracts into 2006.

Identify players you would want to see in purple for the 2006 - 2007 season. Mine are bolded. Leave a comment at the end.

Hey, I could have selected all the available offensive tackles and guards! I selected a few just for discussion sake.

Where's My Podcast!?!?

There is no scheduled podcast on the horizon currently. Due to family and such, Vikes Geek and I aren't able to connect for a Score Seven podcast until after the Lions game. There could be a sneak podcast before the weekend with a special guest if he and I can connect.

The other reason for no podcast is that local NBC affiliate KARE-11 television wants to interview me for a segment they are doing on Podcasting. Why filming me speaking into an iPod would hold any viewing audience is beyond me but what do I know.

Should the segment actually air, I'll mention it here so the locals can tune in and have a good laugh.

None of the Vikings are in bold? Not even Edinger? KoRo is cheap (if he can see after that hit last week). Not Newman, who's gotten some more than adequate reviews in some parts?

Posted by: Keyman at November 2, 2005 08:00 AM

Keyman: I purposely left off any Vikings thinking new blood only. But they could certaily bring back Newman. Edinger? I'm just not sold on him yet. He has not shown he can punch one through the uprights when playing outside....which is one of the reasons the Bears parted with him. If Adam Vinatieri is available, why not make a play. Vinatieri certainly has a very good outside FG%.

I think the place where the Vikes need the most help is in the coaching staff. I don't think this team is as bad as they're playing. Obviously, O line help is needed badly, and we can always use help defensively, but we need some coaches that have a clue.

If you read the Pioneer Press today, Winfield calls out the coaches for crappy playcalling, not going with the game plan and not making adjustments to help out Toast...I mean Smoot.

Maybe the Vikes can get someone like David Carr on the cheap. He has a gun, is young and knows how to take a hit (lots of practice). I think Culpepper will come back stronger, but it would be nice insurance with someone with starting exp.

I know you are genetically against all things Packer related, but given that you are not sold on Edinger, why no interest in Longwell?

Posted by: Cheesehead Craig at November 2, 2005 01:48 PM

As far as current VIkings I would like to see them keep Willie Offord around. He is an unselfish player, good special teams leader, and the light bulb has just started to come on with him at safety.

Posted by: Thomas at November 2, 2005 02:00 PM

CC: How many did Longwell-WideRight miss against the Vikes?

I'm not against Edinger totally, but until he can be more consistent outside....much like the team itself...I'll be sold.

Posted by: Brian Maas at November 2, 2005 03:19 PM

Thomas: Oh yeah, I am a HUGE Wille supporter. He, along with Newmie, I would have no hesitation bringing back.

Posted by: Brian Maas at November 2, 2005 03:20 PM

Longwell is just as good as Viniteri (81.9% vs 81.6% career FG) and is actually better than he is from over 40 yards (67% vs 65%). I bring up Viniteri as you stated it would be worth a run to bring him in.

He did miss 2 (42 and 53 yards) against the Vikes. But if you want to be so close-minded as to judge a player by one game, so be it.
