Williams Off the Table

Well, you can officially remove the name of Gregg Williams from the hot list of possible head coach candidates that Zygi Wilf can choose from.

The Washington Redskins have signed, assistant head coach/defense, to a new three-year contract, the team announced today. Too bad as I was warming to the idea of Williams, one of the brightest defensive minds in professional football, working with the improved Purple People Eaters.

And we could be losing another Williams. How many of you caught this little nugget from the STrib today?

Cornerback Brian Williams was one of three players who removed the nametags from their lockers Monday, an indication they don't plan on using them next year. Safety Corey Chavous and running back Michael Bennett were the others.

I'd hate to lose Brian Williams after the year he had!

A candidate that has not been mentioned fro the head coaching job is Scott Linehan. He was successful in college and showed that he could be productive in the pros. He is familiar with the current system and terminology and had Miami's offense playing above their skill level.

If he can find an OC that he likes and let Cotrell continue to work on the D, that could be a great option and would fall into place faster than someone unfamiliar with the program.

Good to see you back and posting COD!

Seems like you have been sick for quite a while, here's hoping you get better soon.

I wouldn't like to lose Cory Chavous, either. Bennet is a little too inconsistent to make me that upset.

Who do you think will QB for the Vikes next year? If not Culpepper or Johnson, who would you want most? I would have liked to get Rivers from San Diego, but with Brees' injury, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I wouldn't mind trying to bring in Schaub from Atlanta, he's showed he can hold his own out there.

I doubt Schaub will be released, Hotlanta was only 8-8 this year with Vic and he seems to get hurt every year and he is one run away from a DC type injury. Rivers is untested and at this point an unkown. If the Vikes don't get Culpepper I think it will be a trade for a QB and pick. Maybe Miami, Ferote and the #1 for Culpepper if Linehan stays in Miami. But I don't think they will trade Culpepper unless he forces it. Coaches will be interesting; we may look back a year or two from now and say we should have kept Tice and then again we may not. Cotrell I wouldn't keep as the DC let alone hire as the HC. At this point it's anyones guess but if we have seen anything from Zygi it's that he has a plan, with parts A,B, and C.

Yeah, I agree that Schaub won't leave Atlanta. They need to use him more and attract some wide receivers. No WRs want to go to a team were Vic runs the ball all the time. On the other hand, Mora may develop Wic into a pocket passer, in which case Schaub should WANT to leave.

I thought Rivers looked good in week 17, but I don't think he's going anywhere.

Tice will probably find greater success as the head coach of a different team in 4 or 5 years, and everyone will say "we should've kept Tice!" but I think he needs the experience of being let go, becoming a coordinator (or position coach) and re-emerging in order to be successful.

Did you see the comments by Brad Johnson today?

The loss of BWill, Bennett, and Chavous would be trivial compared to losing Johnson. Wilf is going to find out just how difficult it is to be an owner in the NFL these days. He needs to make a key decision about the future QB of the Vikes in a month or two.

Wow. So I'm not sure if I'd rather have Brad Johnson start for Minnesota or trade him away so he can start somewhere else.
