Here We Go Again

bidder.jpg

I received an e-mail on Wednesday. It caught my breath for a tic or two. I mean, it wasn't something that I hadn't already surmised but still....just seeing it out in the open was certainly cause for angst. It was from The Insider who broke the Moss trade to me last year before it occurred. The e-mail simply said:

I'm hearing SERIOUS rumbles that Pepper will be traded to the highest bidder...

So, there you go. Much like last year when we had restlessness before, during and after the playoffs this season will not be any dissimilar. What happened to just a nice, serene off-season of NFL Draft talk and such?!?!?

So, let us run with the assertion that The Poutin' Quarterback the First will be traded and sporting a new uniform next season. What should the Vikings expect in return?

Not much. As Vikes Geek wrote this week:

[Culpepper will] have virtually no trade value even among potential suitors. For despite the fact that many around the league fervently believe that, once recovered, Culpepper will return to 2004 form, those same admirers and potential suitors understand that Culpepper’s recent behavior seriously has maligned the Vikings’ ability to get any meaningful value should they trade him. While the Vikings probably could have dealt Culpepper two weeks ago for a number one pick in the 2006 NFL draft and a solid veteran player, the asking price likely has now plummeted to that of a third-round pick—if not less.

You see, The Poutin' Quarterback the First has now officially become an immature whiner of the first degree. So, not only do the Vikes have to try and see damaged goods on a physical level, they have to do so on a maturity level as well. Frankly, I'd be surprised at anything higher than a 4th round selection in the 2006 NFL draft. And for that reason, I hope the Vikes press not for draft selections but rather players...with NFL experience under their helmets.

The teams mentioned in recent days to be sniffing around Winter Park for the services of The Poutin' Quarterback the First are: Arizona, Oakland, Miami (if offensive coordinator Scott Linehan stays), and St. Louis (if Linehan becomes the next head coach of the Rams).

Names that I'd be interested in from Arizona (and remember, in a trade it matters not about FA or under contract) would be: Anquan Boldin (WR), Karlos Danbsy (OLB), Leonard Davis (OT), and Josh McCown (QB).

From Oakland I'd be looking at: Doug Gabriel (WR), LaMont Jordan (RB), and Jerry Porter (WR).

If we were to deal with St. Louis, the names I'd like to see tossed about would be: Alex Barron (OT), Marc Bulger (QB), Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB), Jamie Martin (QB), Orlando Pace (OT), and Pisa Tinoisamoa (OLB).

Finally, if the trade were to occur with Miami, some names could be: Chris Chambers (WR), Jason Taylor (DE), and Zack Thomas (MLB).

Of course, that is all in good fun. There is no telling who (and how many) a team would be willing to give up for The Poutin' Quarterback the First. No telling at all. It may just be a package deal of middle to late round draft choices bundled with a middle-of-the-road talent (Napo Harris anyone?). At least we got a first rounder for Randy Moss....and landed Troy Williamson who at least has the good fortune of "hope" tagged on him and not "lost cause".

How about you? If PQ the First were to be traded what would you like in return?

Note: PQ the First; I might have to start a smoke signal much like when a new pope is chosen. Each day perhaps I should post a photo with smoke emanating from a small chimney white for "we are keeping him"

or black for "PQ the First has been traded.

I'll sleep on it.

What are you smoking? C-pep is worth more than a 3rd round pick if he doesn't recover and starts acting like Moss!! When we trade BBB back in the day we got 2 1st round picks. When Phi traded their third string QB a couple years ago they got a 2nd from Mia.

What I've thought would be nice is Mia 1st and Ronnie Brown (RB), and I thought I was letting C-pep go cheap.

Or

Oak 1st and 2nd (and still I think that's cheap)

Yes, I'm ready to cast C-pep aside, but I don't want to give him away. He's still a top 10 (if not better) NFL Starting QB and they are hard to come by!!

I like the smoke stack idea! On trading PQ, as I said yesterday we will be lucky to get a 3d and players. I suppose just using logic either Linehan or Green could up the ante both having worked with PQ. I know the Vikings are going to take the brunt of all this in the media and by their fans but I truely believe PQ is the one that started this.

While I have never questioned PQ's physical abilities as a QB, his mental skill in the game has always been a sore point for me. He has always just made to many mental mistakes during his career (except for the 2004 season) not to mention his inability to hold on to the ball. I won't be sad to see him depart from the ship.

With that said, I wouldn't mind see him going to Oakland only to bring back the super brat Randy Moss. Now wouldn't that be something to talk about!

PQ is high risk high reward. Two words...... Ricky Williams.

Casey: You make a valid counter, but the injury makes PQ the First a 'unknown'. Who would be willing to give up a first for a QB that may never rebound to his previous level of play?

Lonnie: Good point about who will take the blame....and it should be squarely on PQ the First's shoulders.

Bill: Yes, bringing back The Freak would be a story of epic proportions, but I just don't see it happening. With a West Coast offense dependant on feeding off passes via short routes, there is no way Moss could be kept happy.

Kendel: I actually looked at Williams and was going to place him amongst my 'Fins players for possible trade. But I'm not sure he is a long term solution and the Vikes would rather look for a RB that can be The Guy for the next several seasons.

I say trade PQ for Randy, bring in TO (even if I don't like him that much), spend the first two draft picks on a Linebacker and Runningback. BBB can throw his two long passes he's able to throw per game to Randy and the rest to TO, Wiggins, Burleson and the others. Hello Superbowl.

No seriously, I'd love to have Randy back but i don't see it happen either.

I'd prefer Ronnie Brown to Ricky Williams for the same reasons as COD.

But that TO thing could happen, otherwise I'd not be surprised seeing him in a Raiders Jersey next season.

I would think Ricky Williams before TO. TO and Childress DO NOT get along. I don't believe either. Wide outs we have, RB depending on what they do with Onterio we have, Line Backers and O line is what I believe they would go after in a trade.

I believe it is time for the Poutin Quarterback #1 to leave the Vikings. I think a trade with Arizona for a player and a #2 draft pick this year and a #3 pick next year that could be upgraded to a higher pick based on Pep's performance next season is a good trade.

Then take that #2 pick this year and send it to Atlanta for QB Matt Schaub.

I think this trade would work well for all.

Not sure I am really enjoying this off season so far.

A winning record and all the assistant coaches look like getting fired....

Also both QBs unhappy ....

I'm glad there is excitement in the offseason due to the possibility that a 7 year failed experiment will likely be gone soon. I don't like the uncertainty of not knowing what the Vikes can get in trade for him, and with his trade value plummeting with each foolish action or inaction by PQ-I.

Those who think Moss or TOwens or Ricky Williams will be the trade payoff for PQ-I have short memories regarding what Wilf said after Capt PQ-I's Love Boat cruise ran aground on a sandbar.

What's next in the Viking's 2006 off-season Soap Opera? Will it be Smutty Smoot asking for legal fees to be a covered expense allowance in a revised contract? Or O.Smith asking for medical expenses, for such things as prosthetic devices, to be covered in his revised contract? Stay tuned to Mr. Cheer or Die's Viking Underground for the answer...

I think the fact that Shaper, Winfield and Smoot will be heading our secondary(especially after Smoot's indiscresion)indicates that they will fit within the new defensive scheme parameters. The fact that PQB1(draft pick or veteren, maybe 2 and 2+ mil back to cap)and PQB2(draft pick and 1+ mil back to cap)= 3 draft picks or veterens and 3+ mil back, light the fires COD and be ready for PURPLE smoke to appear because if either of these PQB's were going to remain here, the brass would have already announced it, on that you can beleive. The money saved could go towards getting S. Alexander here, provided he's not too banged up after this season and get a couple of Non-PQB's who are younger and more athletic than JohnSTONE and quicker problem-solving skills than Slo-pepper. Minnesota has the money and smarts to accomplish this and much more.

I think Steve is dead on. Matt Schaub is my first choice for the Vikes' next starting QB.

The only downside, however, is we'd likely have to trade away Big Bad Brad. Could we get much for him? I don't think Schaub will want to come to Minnesota to play back up to BBB for the next couple years.

Hello, C.O.D.

I do not know if you are retarded, or just have brain damage; you can NOT trade a Free Agent! Send me an eMail regarding your mental status.

Sincerely,
MArk.
