"T-Minus Four Days: The Insider Updates" by Mr. Cheer Or Die

foleyfire.jpg

Fresh from The Insider is that another quarterback is now on the Vikings radar....

....yes, Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler has shifted momentum away from the Wonderlic Kid, Vince Young. The Vikes realize that they would still need to move up to grab Cutler, but the staff feels the price would not be as great as it would to nab Young.

The Insider also tells me that if the Vikings stay put at #17, a linebacker will be the pick. And the #1 linebacker on the board is Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway. And how can one find fault with a linebacker who wears a shirt with a list of 10 "Norm-isms" that have been uttered by Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker as seen below:

greenwayshirt

I mean at #3 is "Run like a scalded-ass dog." And how will Vikes defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin like it when Greenway shows up with the shirt and Tomllin reads #6 which goes, "The three fastest ways to die are 1) natural gas, 2) electricity, and 3) cover 2".....I'd think Tomlin might just implode! But that is linebacker mentality.....and what the Vikes need.

New Look

The Vikings aren't the only ones about to unveil a new look on Thursday. Come back Thursday morning when I will beat the Vikings unveiling with one of my own. And you won't have to travel to the Mall of America to see it!

Of course, if you want to see the Vikes new uniforms (my own unveiling will give you a clue!) you can head to the Rotunda at the Mall of America. The event will run from 6:00-6:30 p.m. Which is when I'll be working my second job....so there won't be any personal photos. But come back to the VU for a special poll in which you can vote thumbs up or down.

From what I have been hearing lately...you know, from the "experts". The word is Cutler may very well fall to the 17 th pick.

Last season's Vanderbilt @ Florida game was on just a couple hours ago. After watching Cutler very closely, I am sold. This guy has a cannon and an accurate one. He is very good in the pocket and breaks or scrambles away from more sacks then he is given credit for. I would be opposed n no way to doing what it takes to get Cutler. Johnson would make a perfect mentor for the kid too.

Well, Scout.com's mock draft has been updated to show Cutler as the 17th pick in the Vikings hands:
http://nfldraft.scout.com/2/523664.html
they seem to agree.

It would surely be nice to see a rough Cutler buffed up by Johnson and Childress. Simms down in Tampa said the 2 time Pro Bowl, Super Bowl winning Johnson (with one of the top-20 passer ratings of all-time and a 60+% completion rate for 10 yrs straight) was the best tutor he ever had in his entire football career (and that's saying a lot since his dad is 2x Pro Bowl 2x Super Bowl champ Phil Simms)- said Johnson alwasy had useful tidbits for him and taught him that you don't have to always force risky plays to always win games, a lesson Cutler could use. Forcing risky plays is his main downfall at this point. Johnson's always relied on skill to become a top QB since he didn't have the most talent, should we transfer some of that skill to Cutler we'd have some great results.

We could also use a fast linebacker too. Give Tomlin, the defensive backs coach from last years #1 ranked defense (and coached the 2003's Superbowl winning defense that scored 3 TDs in the Superbowl), the tools he needs to succeed and our defense will go a long way.

First of All, HAPPPY BIRTHDAY, BRIAN!!! You're still a young man! I graduated Williston High School the year you were born!!!

While there is a chance that Cutler could slip down close to our 17th pick, I rather doubt it. And, yes, a trade for Schaub still is possible. But the more I follow this draft, the more I suspect that Coach Childress will be satisfied to take on a project QB in the third round or lower. And that may be good, because we then can load up on LBs, OG, CB and other positions of need.
Mike from Dakota Territory, North, that is...
