Eclipse

The lunar eclipse was very fun to observe Wednesday night. This one was special for many reasons. The presence of Saturn just to the southeast of the moon and the bright star Regulus just north of the moon during the eclipse provided me with extra information to spoon the sponge-like brain of young COD Jr. who watched the eclipse with his Cub Scout binoculars...and his tongue never quieted during the whole thing.

Second, the color of this lunar eclipse was fantastic. We watched the moon turn an orange/deep red hue, due to the indirect sunlight that passes through the Earth's atmosphere and casts a glow on it. If you missed this one, you'll have to wait until December 20-21, 2010 to view another lunar eclipse.

I did set out to take some photos. My busy work schedule prevented me from proper preparation so I apologize for the quality of the photos. I'm better than that. But, it was five below zero making me fidget to make camera setting corrections. And it was more important to me to share the moment with my son than try and capture it all on film. But have a look anyway (click on image for larger view). Hope you had a great time viewing as well!

Music Recommendation

If you have never heard of Feist, you are missing something. Here is their cover of the Bee Gee's song Inside and Out.

Coming Saturday

This may be my last blog entry for the week as lots of the plate with a Cub Scout winter camp-out and other family events. But come back Saturday and you'll be able to download my 1997 interview with then Vikings offensive coordinator Brian Billick into your iTunes/iPod. Actually, it is available now on the VU Podcast page but I know many of you like 'portability'. If you choose to listen "early" via the podcast page, just be sure to hit the play button twice on the embedded player. Otherwise, those subscribing via iTunes will have the podcast available for download Saturday.

After you listen, come back and let me know what you thought about hearing this 'blast from the past." I hope to post my '97 interview with Foge Fazio next Saturday (March 1).
