This captured my eye in Sunday's STrib buried in a story about Larry Fitzgerald:
"The Scout.com reports the Vikings are expected to pursue Bengals free safety Madieu Williams when free agency opens Thursday."
OK, I'll be the first to admit....I ain't ever heard of this here dude (picture of country bumpkin COD and fellow friend below). But it should come as no surprise when safety went from a possible need position for the Vikings to a high priority following the sudden release of veteran Dwight Smith (the Daily Norseman stated it best referring to Smith as Dead to Me).

Williams seems like a tough sort of character. Perhaps in the mold of Mr. Joey Browner?
And picking up Williams would be a 180-degree upgrade in character over the exploits of Mr. Smith (see the VU Culture of Accountability Wall of Fame on the right navigation screen). Williams has his own web site, featuring the Madieu Williams Foundation, "a fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, focuses on health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and education. Through his foundation, Madieu reaches out to youth and teaches them at an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle."
I think Smith had a foundation for taking security cameras out of public stairwells.
The connection with the Vikings is defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Frazier coached Williams in Cincinnati from 2003-2004. Williams started 13 games before ending the year on injured reserve with a quad injury. Williams had 74 tackles (58 solo) with two interceptions, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. Williams is a unrestricted free agent.
Another reason to like Williams: During training camps Williams would fight with world-class clown Chad Johnson. Any one who would try to put a seal on the lips of Johnson is a great guy in my book. Let's get this guy.
Come back Monday for a inside scoop on a college player the Vikes have very high on their list of possible first round selections. Then you'll learn why they gave permission to Troy Williamson to look for a trade.
