a sad day for twins fans and baseball fans alike
while i told myself i would focus on my busy week, and not waste my time with blogging, news of this event called for special exception.
Bob Casey, the only voice the twins have ever had, died early easter morning. He was 79 years young. the upcoming season was supposed to be his last. he is probably best known for announcing twins star "Kirrrrrrrr-Beee Puck-it!" as well as reminding fans that "there is Noooooooo Smoking in the metrodome." you could not help but love this man's voice, even when you could not understand what he was saying, partially due to the domes speakers, and also because of his mumblings. he was always good for giving players new names, and by that i mean misprounouncing names. he will be missed.
attending games this season will have a sense of lacking in atmosphere. the new voice for the 'twins territory' may hurt the ears with unfamiliarity at first, but as soon as hunter makes an amazing catch, or mauer blasts one into the seats, the cheers of the many loyal fans will appease the ears. and everyone will know that bob casey is still there in spirit.
