a soccer ball to the balls.

tonight the HOCs suffered a crushing defeat to a mediocre team. the final score was 5-1, we still had our token 1 goal, but all the goals were scored by the other team, even our goal. with 3 games left and a 2-3-1 record the HOCs need to pull it together to reach a .500 season to be qualified for the playoffs. no matter what happens though, i enjoy the people on my team, and i am having a blast.

in the 2nd half of tonights game, a member of the other team kicked the soccer ball straight into my balls and straight to the ground i went. it kind of reminds me of how school is going for me right now. i feel like my poly sci minor is giving me a shot right in the balls. the early grade turnout for this semester is not lookin so hot. but i will just suck it up, like i did in the game tonight (after a short breather on the sideline), and get back out there and play. after all, after this semester is over, next year will be a breeze. only 19 credits to graduate. maybe a poly sci minor was a bad idea, but it will be done after this semester, and i can take more fun classes next year.

game on!

a sad day for twins fans and baseball fans alike

while i told myself i would focus on my busy week, and not waste my time with blogging, news of this event called for special exception.

Bob Casey, the only voice the twins have ever had, died early easter morning. He was 79 years young. the upcoming season was supposed to be his last. he is probably best known for announcing twins star "Kirrrrrrrr-Beee Puck-it!" as well as reminding fans that "there is Noooooooo Smoking in the metrodome." you could not help but love this man's voice, even when you could not understand what he was saying, partially due to the domes speakers, and also because of his mumblings. he was always good for giving players new names, and by that i mean misprounouncing names. he will be missed.

attending games this season will have a sense of lacking in atmosphere. the new voice for the 'twins territory' may hurt the ears with unfamiliarity at first, but as soon as hunter makes an amazing catch, or mauer blasts one into the seats, the cheers of the many loyal fans will appease the ears. and everyone will know that bob casey is still there in spirit.

a bowl full of royalty

tom was kind enough to take care of rebuilding the fish community on our side of the apartment. unfortunatly i was not able to get any good pictures, so i will have to describe the two new goldfish with words.

King Tobias II-while this fish does not share the blood lineage of king tobias I, he still shares the name. this fish is white, with an orange crown on his head. he is kind of laid back, except sometimes out of nowhere-->ZING! he zips around for no reason. long live the king!

Emperor Kuzco-now we have a lot of royalty. this fish, named after the star of the greatest cartoon movie ever: Emperor's New Groove. He is all black and has big bulgy eyes, just like emperor kuzco. he can blend into the black rocks on the bottom. now this lil guy already has the feeding time all figured out. he sees the hand near the top of the tank, and he zooms up to top and says "I am one hungry king of the world."

so they both have distintive personalities already. perhaps soon i will be able to snap some good photos of them. but you know how royalty likes to avoid bein photographed. hiding behind the plastic plants and all.

much love for my sister!

one night over the summer my sister was pondering as to whether she should even write an essay for the possibility of a full scholarship to ithaca college in upstate new york. she did not expect to get anything, but with a little encouragement, she wrote this essay the night before it was due, and express mailed it out to new york.

recently, she was told that she was one of around 50 finalists for 19 of these scholarships. so this last weekend she flew out to NY for an interview.

tonight, she got the call that she has received one of these scholarships! this means that she does not need to pay for tuition, housing, food, a fully loaded computer of her choosing, books, and pretty much whatever other need her heart desires, oh and they also hook her up with internships!

i love my sister lots, and i am so happy that she has been given this ridiculously incredible blessing. janelle marie mackereth, you make me a very proud brother! much thanks to God, for he always seems to work in wonderful ways.

simply put, my sister is amazing. sometimes i worry about how much of a workaholic she is, but evidently it has paid off. i could keep gushing and typing about this for a while, but i won't. i think i have made it clear as to how joyful, proud, and thankful i am that this has happened.

there has not been any birdwatching for a while

tonight we had another thriller at the fieldhouse. our favorite HOCs pulled off a victory without needing the assistance of a forfeit! there was a 2 week break from HOC news, and for this i apologize, because i know your faces were all turning blue from holding your breath in anticipation. but last week was spring break, and the week before i failed the team by not attending. they lost 3-1 but the important part was that they got the token 1 goal.

tonight however we took that token goal and multiplied it by 3! we took the lead going into the half with a goal by our all star rachael, who has scored pretty much every one of our goals this season.

they fought back and tied it in the beginning of the second half, and so rachael was like oh that is no good, so she scored again, so now it is 2-1 us. then peter is like oh this scoring buisness looks fun, so he scores a safety goal to make it 3-1. we let them score another goal so they dont feel as bad so it is 3-2. and that is how it ends. and for those of you keeping track of our record, we are at 2-2-1 so we are sitting at a .500 record, which is what we need to go to the playoffs.

lets take a look at the x-factors to the game:
1) i wore some comfy reeboks, rather than my no cushion converse all-stars
2) we had only one sub, and towards the middle of the second half. dave number 2 rehurt his ankle and so we had no subs. this forced good passing so that we would not get tired.
3) i ate sloppy joes before the game. that is actually an anti-x-factor. the point is joe our goalkeeper was not sloppy. he slurped up that ball (except those 2 times).
4) rachael is awesome and makes all the players on the other team look silly.
5) the game was at 11.15 so we had plenty of time to get ready mentally.
6) the other team had a guy that got super pissed all the time, and that doesnt help them. he didnt even do the exchange handshake thing at the end of the game.
7) we scored more than our token one goal, and more importantly more than the other team.

and in other news, i got my street fighter game today. so i am going to play that now, even though i have work in 7 hours.

break me off a piece of that

now that spring break is over, let's see how i took a break.

between my two jobs i worked next to 70 hours over spring break week. so would i call it a break? probably not. but when it is actually spring in minnesota, at least i wont be spring broke. until i buy a new computer. because this 'dude you're getting a dell' is more like a 'dude you're getting a ripoff.' my computer likes to turn off randomly. maybe it is scared of the dinosaurs prowling on the top of my monitor, so it plays dead. which must be the case since computers are so smart, and these dinosaurs are so fierce! that is why my next computer will be an apple. because the fossil record proves that dinosaurs do not like to eat apples.

and cave paintings also show that they never sang that apples and bananas song. i like to oat, oat, oat, opples and bononos

ready? fight!

round 1 (friday)
everyone's first official day of spring break. i had to work 8.30-2 at the apartment then i spent the evening hangin out with student government nerds. so obviously there was the expected talk of politics, student government, bylaws, parly pro, campaigning, and all that good stuff. there was also much talk of what you would not expect from student government geeks. lets just say that it was interesting and that i learned a lot.

round 2 (saturday)
once again i spent my mornin at work, the typical 9-5 shift. then i was kidnapped by jasmine and julie. they forced me to watch the first few episodes of the OC. i have to say that Marissa Cooper is definatly a crush for me on the show. played by mischa barton, she listens to punk music, wears converse all-stars, has dark hair, amazing eyes, and according to jazz and julie, "a good bone structure." i am optimistic.
behold, mischa in all of her beauty:

but i am not forgetting my loyalty to my ultimate crush, kristin kreuk:

round 3 (sunday)
can you smell what the rock is pannekoken? well its pannekoken, and i filled my stomach till it hurt at this place with my friend kelsey. that made me sleepy, and so i went to bed early so i could wake up early for work.

bonus (monday)
i worked 8.30-1, then i worked my other job for 3 hours. then i went to chill with a bunch of some ol friends along with some of their friends. it was a grand time and i ate a lot of candy to make my teeth rot. i returned home to discover some great news! i won the eBay auction for street fighter 2 turbo for the super nintendo.

i have to build up my chick magnet box by getting new games so i can win over mischa and kristin.

long live the king!

what once was two fish, became one when the light of sundown to midnight's life was extinguished. and now what once was one fish has now become none as king tobias has bubbled his last bubble. his passing was very sudden unlike that of sundowns. he will be flushed with 24 by switchfoot playing during his fishy funeral, as is tradition for the passing of all fish.

sometime over break we will start a brand new colony.

red light, green light!

just in case anyone else had this burning question about stoplights inside like i did. i contacted MN/dot and got some answers, and now i am just passing on my knowledge, because KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

David wrote:

This is kind of a random question but how are the stoplights timed? Are there scales that let them know when cars are waiting? Just something I was wondering about.

Thanks,
David Mackereth

and Jerry answered:

David,
Traffic signals are timed by various factors such as posted speeds and approach volumes, to name a few. The most common type of traffic detection that MN/DOT uses is an 6'x6' inductive wire loop placed in the roadway. This type of loop will sense the change in inductance when a vehicle drives over it. There are other types of detection such as camera, sonic, magnetic and acoustic that are less frequently used. Our web site has FAQ's that you may be interested in. The site is: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/faq/index.html
Hope this helps,

marty mcfly

i went back in time michael j fox style. my plane left indiana at 7.55pm and i arrived in chicago at 7.45pm.

it is too bad that i cannot just keep goin back in time cause i need some more. i can't waste my typing here because i have to type a 5 page paper for tomorrow. but everyone should take this chance to actually ask me about my life in person rather than read the online version. i had way more fun than i ever could have expected in indiana, and i am much closer to the people who came with. there is way more stories that i could possibly strain my fingers to tap out.

maybe soon i will have some sweet pictures to post. and maybe i will have some increible paintings again soon. and maybe i will start writing clever posts again. but all this will prolly not happen this week. because i am getting very little sleep between now and spring break. and creativity is (i don't even know what to type anymore).

Go Ninja, Go Ninja. GO!

i just ate a lot of pizza. now i have to do some homework whatnot, then i need to pack. because in about 7 hours i need to meet up to go to the airport. from there it will be off to indiana. and just think of all the sweet things in indiana like...

well when i think of cool states, indiana is definatly ranked up there with new york and california.

and what makes it even cooler is the reason i am going there. i am, along with several other students from the U, going to the university of indiana to meet with the student governments from all of the big 10 schools.

i should have a donatello action figure instead right now, what a nerd he was.

but seriously though, i am super excited! i have not riden a plane since i was a baby, and i get the plane ride and hotel for free. plus a lot of other sweet people are going.

COWABUNGA!

yes, HOCs have large talons.

Hawks have extremely sharp claws, called talons, which they use to catch and hold their prey, and their name comes from the Middle English word hafoc, which means “to grasp or seize.”

today, the HOCs seized a WIN! even though we actually lost the game 4-1 (hey, we still got that token 1 goal). the other team failed to field a complete team, so they were forced to forfeit, giving us the win by default. we gave them some of our players so that we could still play a game.

for those of you keeping track, the HOCs are now 1-1-1, we keep up this .500 or above record and we will be in the playoffs!

that did not last long.

i drank some pop on sunday at TGI Fridays when my mother took me out for shopping and eats. i had a coke, with grenadine...yummm!

and then yesterday (mon), i bought a bottle of cherry coke, because i needed a pick me up.

obvioulsy i can't stop drinking...pop. well i am no longer drinking 4 cans a day.
