University of Minnesota's head football coach was officially relieved of his contract, the Minnesota Daily announced.
The university's athletic director Joel Maturi said, "We need to take a step forward."
In the interim, co-offensive coordinator Jeff Horton will serve as the Gopher's head coach.
The next head coach may have a special bonus in store for him. "If we go to the Rose
Bowl," Maturi said to the Star Tribune, "we might even put a statue of him outside TCF Bank Stadium."
