Current Exhibit: Doris S. Kirschner Cookbook Collection
The Doris S. Kirschner Cookbook Collection offers a unique glimpse into the evolution of cooking in America over the past century. Donated in 1985 by St. Paul native Doris S. Kirschner, the collection of 1300+ volumes is a rich resource for those with interest in food history, social history, the march of technology, and local flavors. Included in the collection are volumes by culinary authors such as Julia Child, James Beard, and Craig Claiborne as well as many local, community-based cookbooks. Additional volumes are added to the collection each year through a generous gift from the Kirschner family.
The collection is housed in Magrath Library's Reference area, located on the ground floor. Magrath's current display, installed at the Library's entrance, highlights the historical and international aspects of the collection. Take a virtual peek at http://magrath.lib.umn.edu/exhibits.phtml .
