New Public Computer Access Procedures

Beginning in July, the St. Paul Libraries will implement a new and easier way for guests without a valid x.500 account to access library workstations. The change is driven in part by a new University policy, Securing Private Data, Computers and Other Electronic Devices, requiring all University-managed computers to be accessed through an account-based login procedure.

The Libraries have taken this opportunity to develop new procedures that we think offer you access to public workstations for your research needs. Instead of asking staff to log you in as a guest user, you will now register for your own account. This will enable you to log in to a public workstation on your own, without requesting assistance.

To register for an account you will need to:

  • Present a valid government issued photo ID

  • Provide your home address and phone number

  • Agree to the Terms of Service
