Illustration Friday: Reflection

Here are two versions of my daily visitors. I think I prefer the version where the birds are not outlined, though the electronic copy is now the only one that looks like that since I went ahead and outlined on the original.

It's interesting how male and female birds are often not reflections of each other. I wonder if they are kind of like people, though, who become more alike over the years. I like thinking of the occasional mirror images I do get on my thistle feeder with these lovely little goldfinches, but I thought it would be more fun to paint a male and female (not?) reflecting each other.

I don't want a reflection of me...can you imagine?!

I like them both, though like the others I tend to prefer the one that wasn't outlined. However that being said, I think the tan bird would need a slightly darker color down the back to more clearly delineate between her feathers and the white negative space. Otherwise you might lose the definition where the body ends and the background begins.

Wonderful illustration either way!

I now prefer the un-outlined version, but have no choice but to stick with the outlines in this particular sketch (except for the electronic version). However, there's nothing wrong with painting another version, now is there?

id prefer the birds without the outline too.. it looks a buit dreamy and blends perfectly in the background... 8)

Great illustration - and an interesting interpretation of the topic! I love the feathery strokes you used on the bird's wings.

I like the un-outlined one myself! Very interesting about the male and female not reflecting one another... they compliment!
Nice illo!
