A Stillwater man has been charged on Friday with the death of a bar patron after beating him over a spilled drink, the Star Tribune reported.
Eric Kaprice Richard, 22, was charged with one felony count of second-degree murder without intent, and one felony count of first-degree manslaughter while committing a gross misdemeanor, according to the Star Tribune.
Adam McCloud, 29, was allegedly punched three times by Richards before falling to the ground and hitting his head, the Pioneer Press reported.
The incident occurred during a night of drinking at Smalley's Caribbean Barbeque & Pirate Bar on Sept. 28 in downtown Stillwater. The two men were on the dance floor when McCloud knocked Richard's drink out of his hand, according to the criminal complaint. Richard told police that after an argument erupted, McCloud shoved him and he then threw three punches back, the Star Tribune reported.
"That a death was caused over such a trivial thing as this is so tragic as to be beyond belief," County Attorney Pete Orput said reported the Pioneer Press.
