Ah, Eragon. Beacon of originality! A light of freshness in the dark night of fantasy novels! Let me tell you how it starts out: an orphan farmboy living Nowhere, Fantasyland (who has, of course, been taken in and raised by a townsperson--in this case, his uncle), finds out (in a time of great unrest in the country, although said unrest is only rumors in his backwater town) that Big Stuff is going on, and he's going to be in the middle of it. He is accompanied by an crochety guide who won't answer enough of his questions.
Now, does this sound like anything else you're familiar with? Lord of the Rings? Wheel of Time? Sword of Shannara? Star Wars?
Yeah. I was not enthused.
Despite that, though, I did get into the book fairly quickly. It's got a smirking dragon, which is something, anyway (although rather stereotypical in the category of "dragon companion" personalities). All in all, it's alright. I guess. That's all you really want to know, right? Good.
The magic "ancient language" in Eragon is pretty darn Germanic, too. "Gath un reisa du rakr!" and "Du grind huildr!" both look like things I might have had to translate in my History of the German Language class last semester. (Some meanings are right on, too. Eragon's gata means "path." In Swedish, it means "street." Welden (forest) is very close to German's Wald. Theirra means "their," which isn't quite as much of a giveaway as knifr meaning "knife." Eka means "I," which looks bizarre unless you're familiar with Old German's many baffling versions of "Ich." Stenr is "stone," wyrda is "fate," and I think you get the picture.) A couple other words almost scream "ICELANDIC!" at me.
Of course, the "ancient language" also has the word Aiedail for "morning star." And the language of the dwarves has the phrase "Isidar Mithrim," which almost has to be copyright infringement, doesn't it?

Hey i really like Eragon and Eldest. They are my favourite books! I also noticed that when I write, my style is similar Paolini's. His writing is very discriptive and vivid. I wouldnt be surprised if there was a movie made from it or even a game!

Yah, i think this book rocks the party, especially after i only read ERAGON, but i didn't even start reading ELDEST. I think that Christopher Paolini is a genius, and should be treated like one. Right now, i can assum that he is blowing open an Urgal's head with Brisingr!

Why did the movie have to stink so badly? Eragon and Eldest are my favorite books! There was nothing about Katrina, Arya had blond hair, the urguls didn't have horns, Brom was killed by Durza, Sloan was hardly a character, Angela was a psycho, there wasn't any werecat, no Orik and no Nasuada! I'll never watch another Inheritance movie again.

I love eragon and also elders... i started to read it only when the movie started being screened here... But of course, i read eragon first den watch the movie... Although i agree the movie differs from the book, the movie still rocks and i keep wathing it at U-tube over and over again, as in the certain parts...Im definitely gonna buy the dvd when it is in market in s'pore... Elders rocks... I hope if they make the movie elders, they will stick more to the book even thou the movie will be more lengthy but it'll be fun!!! When is the 3rd book gonna be released... I so cant wait... but I guess I do have to wait right... I do hope I dont have to wait till 2008 to read it....

I'm also writing my own book, but it'll never be any better then Christpoher Paolini's books.
It's just a rumor that the third book is called Empire. Well then I have othing else to talk about then, now due I?
Later on in the years, if you might try to find me, I'll try to put in a comment about Christopher Paolini inspiration, that I got from him. My book will be almost as good as one of a kind. If anyone tries to copy it, I already have a copyright.
I shall not see this post most likely... anyway. Inheritance trilogy = LotR (only slightly and I don't really hate it for the elves, orc-like creatures, dwarves, and such... Many fantasy books do so) + Dragonriders of Pern + Earthsea's exact magic system + certain Riftwar Saga key ideas and concepts + A 15 year old's idea of storywriting and textbook writing = Two readable books. The Third may prove to be less readable.

eragon is a heart taking book, it makes everyone have to turn the next page. is there a part three to this sequel

i loved Eragon and Eldest... Now i can't wait 'til the last book comes out. i am a fan of writing, but its not really as good as your's. however, i write fantasy and suspense, combined. i have only one thing to say... please finish writing the book. i can't wait until it comes out. i go to the book store everyday and ask when it comes out.
