Monday's Lecture

First of all, I found it rather interesting that the English and the Indians shared similar agricultural practices.

I was surprised to learn that livestock defined wealth in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and that livestock were very rare in New England. It is interesting how people awaited the arrival of animal shipments.

I was also amazed to read that colonists were aware of how deforestation, grazing, plowing, erosion, and watershed changes all contributed to the problem of soil exhaustion. (pg:150)
