Last Weeks: Leaders should take the time to understand the people around them and not assume this based on a persons appearance or race. They should also look for the good and not always the bad first.

This Weeks: To be a leader you must be confident in all the choices you make, and in yourself. A leader must be Assertive.

Analysis: I think that a leader must be assertive because some one who is passive will just let people run over him/her and will not be able to stand up for what they believe. And for someone who is aggressive (to aggressive in this case) people might not feel like they have a choice and feel like they have to do or act like him/her, people also might think he/she is trying to be the boss. It's always good to go for what you want (not worrying about what people say) but there is a line between going after what you want and making something happen.

This Weeks: Leaders should take the time to understand the people around them and not assume this based on a persons appearance or race. They should also look for the good and not always the bad first.

Analysis: This weeks definition was influenced by Gladwell's "The Warren Harding Error". This is my definition because it is a very common mistake to assume something about someone before you even know them. Doing that can give you an automatic negative perception about a person even if they are great people. In those cases it you automatically don't think the best of them. And to be a leader you should not let things like that affect; what your choosing, who your choosing and how you approach certain situation.

This Weeks: A leader should be passionate about whatever it is that they intend to pursue. Their dreams and visions should be engraved into their practices and teachings.

Analysis: What changed about my definition was again a complete different view of leadership. I changed this weeks definition because i feel like you will not be a successful leader if you are not passionate about the things you are associated with. When you find that thing you are passionate no one/nothing can bring you down, so you are at your best around everyone. The concept of "Tipping-Point" is also something that i agreed with boyatzis on, because your behavior affects everything.

This Weeks: A leader should know that it is very hard to change someone, in fact a Leader should not try to change someone but let them find the means to change themselves.

Analysis: My definition has taken a complete turn from this week to last weeks definition. It changed this week because of the the readings from this week. Both of the readings talked about change and that is why my definition talks about change. It changed because i really think a leader should have a vision for what they want to accomplish. I still do believe that leaders have to be team players but i also have a new thought about leadership. I really understood Kegan's article with his examples of the big assumption.

Analysis: I really stress the Group part because working in a group is very tough as we continue our process for our project it really shows if your not a team/group worker you cannot be successful in the leadership perspective. The definition is similar in the aspect of accepting the differences.

Last Weeks: Leaders must be able to work in a group, and play by the rules; a team player. They must not only think about only them selves but the also the people around them.

This Weeks: As well as working in a team and putting others first, a Leader has to be able to see things (situations) from not just their own perspective but also the perspectives of others. They must also be able to accept and understand those perspectives.

Analysis: This weeks definition is similar to last weeks because to me it is always important to be able to work in groups. Most things you will do in life require you to be surrounded by other individuals that may or may not have the same values as you. I think that it is necessary to be able to "get on the balcony", which in the article cited below talks about seeing things from a larger perspective. Not just from what you see and how you think about things but what the other people around you might be seeing or even feeling. I added this perspective part because after reading the article "Get on The Balcony" i really do feel like that this quality is important because many people don't "look outside of the box". They Stick to what they think with out taking suggestion from others, and it would be very hard to obtain any sort of followers if you guys do not see eye to eye.

Last weeks entry : Leadership is being able to take what people are throwing at you, if it's a challenge or if it's doubt that you can complete a task and show that you can do it, and helping them realize that they can to. Pretty much an influence. Leadership is something in most cases that is born. People that are leaders are born with the natural ability to stand out in a group, help people understand and choose what they believe without being pushed towards one or the other.

This weeks entry: Also leadership is not something that can be done with one person, in order to be a leader you much have someone or people to follow you. They care about their follows and show COMPASSION.

This week i added compassion to my definition because people including myself would not want to be a follower of someone that is harsh. It must be a team effort because if your leading and your alone, who is following? Therefore your not technically a leader.

My definition did not really change, i actually just added on to it. because there are so many things that characterize a Leader. Reading "Deciding what you believe" really helped me get a better look at where leadership is, and also the fact that just because your put in a leading position like supervisor, does not mean you are an actual leader. That required the qualities that is described and not every "leader" has them.
