We are pleased to invite you to the 17th Midwest Asian American Student Conference (MAASC) hosted at Oberlin College!
This year's theme will focus on the historical and cultural significance of food in Asian America, from the disciplines of history, literature, anthropology, and gender/sexuality studies. Food is the battleground for tensions in commodification and appropriation, through debates over who has rights to sell and market, as well as claims to be able to use and consume. Despite assimilation, generational passage, and the progression of history, food has consistently maintained its significance in the Asian American experience.
The MAASC will be held March 2-3, 2012. For registration information, please visit the conference's website at http://new.oberlin.edu/office/multicultural-resource-center/programs/apa-conference/.
Further details about the program, activities, and schedule will be forthcoming, and will become available as the planning process is completed. Also, please note that the registration fee for the conference will be $15 per person (group rates negotiable), which includes a ticket for our closing banquet and a conference t-shirt. You can also view programs for conferences in previous years by following the links on the right side of the page.
You are welcome to contact me or the committee at AAA@oberlin.edu with any further questions, including those regarding travel, transportation, and weekend accommodations for students. Finally, feel free to forward this email to any parties that may be interested.
