Undergrad Writing Consultant Jobs

The Center for Writing invites applications for the position of Undergraduate Writing Consultant. Writing consultants consult one-to-one with students who are working on writing projects from various disciplines. Therefore, we look for candidates with a good knowledge of academic writing conventions who collaborate well with others and are good teachers. We welcome applications from students in all majors and from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. All new undergraduate consultants will take WRIT 3751W: The Theory and Practice of Writing Consultancy in Fall 2012.

Applications are due by March 4; appointments will be made by the end of April, and work will begin in Fall 2012. Job Posting- Interpreter I for the Lindbergh Historic Site

The Minnesota Historical Society's Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site is seeking applicants for part-time Interpreter I positions. Interpreters will conduct public tours and educational programming by educating and engaging visitors with the history of the site and assisting in its operations. These are part-time, regular positions located at the Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site in Little Falls, MN, working 208 annual hours.

Fluid Power Scholars Program: A Paid Industry Summer Internship!

The Fluid Power Scholars Program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) and companies in the fluid power industry who are corporate members of the CCEFP. This highly selective summer program identifies and connects the very best undergraduate engineering students across the United States to the fluid power industry with the purpose of training the next-generation of fluid power leaders.

This is a highly competitive program, open to undergraduates who have successfully completed at least two years in an accredited engineering program in the United States. The Scholars program begins with an intensive three and 1/2 day instructional program in fluid power, taught at the Fluid Power Institute at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and follows with internships in the fluid power industry. The Fluid Power "Bootcamp" at MSOE will be held May 21-24, 2012. Students should expect to spend 10-11 weeks as a intern in their host company. Up to ten undergraduate students will be selected as Fluid Power Scholars by a committee of faculty and industry representatives. In addition to their paid internships, scholars will receive stipends for travel and living expenses associated with their work at MSOE.

Mentoring Opportunity

The Little Earth Youth Development Center in East Phillips is looking for mentors for children aged 5-17. Both undergraduate and graduate/professional students are eligible for this program. It looks great on a resume, and gives you a chance to make a difference in your community.

Become a 2012 MCAE Multicultural Kickoff Ambassador!!!

The Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence hosts a two-day Multicultural Kickoff (MKO), which helps incoming first-year students make a successful transition to college by building community and identifying academic and cultural supports on campus. The Multicultural Kickoff begins Tuesday, August 28 and concludes Wednesday, August 29 before Welcome Week begins.

We are looking for outgoing and enthusiastic current students to serve as MKO Ambassadors during the event. Ambassadors will work in pairs to lead a small group of first-year students throughout the event. Ambassadors should be knowledgeable about on-campus resources for multicultural students and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Upon completion of the MKO Ambassador program, students will receive a $200.00 stipend. Students are expected to attend an April information session, training sessions on Friday, August 24th and Monday, August 27th (including move-in), and must be present for the entire Multicultural Kickoff on Tuesday, August 28th and Wednesday, August 29th, 2012.

Message from the New Director of MCAE

Dear Students,

My name is Frederic MacDonald-Dennis and I am your new Director of the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence. I joined the MCAE Team on January 9 and have been warmly welcomed by so many on campus already. I look forward to working with the staff of MCAE to provide you the best resources possible to help ensure your success at the University.

I am deeply committed to students and am thrilled to have the chance to serve you in this role. MCAE is planning lots of exciting activities for you this semester and will continue to offer several opportunities for growth through our many scholarship partnerships and our outstanding instructional center, which is staffed with excellent tutors to help you with coursework in various subjects. In addition, we offer many opportunities for civic engagement through our community-based learning programs. MCAE has much to give and we look forward to continuing to serve you.

This event will be hosted from 4:00-5:30 pm on Tuesday, January 24th in Room 41 of Appleby Hall.

The staff of the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence would like to welcome you to the U of M and provide information about the opportunities available through our office.

These opportunities include use of our instructional center, tutoring, free printing, and civic engagement programs.

The reception will include a brief student-led tour of MCAE and the chance to get all set up for free printing.
