Art Guild Does It Slowly

Art Auction cancelled, D'Art Sale next Thursday, and Art Displays oh my!

Due to poor planning and timing, the first ever Fall Art Auction has been cancelled. We've decided to regroup and focus on a very successful followup to our last March auction next March.

David Hodges of the Duluth Art Institute has been contacted about the collaborative video project in the Depot rotunda room.

The Art Guild display case is slowly developing. Keep bringing more stuff to shove inside!

Art Guild is helping Joellyn Rock's D'ART Shop on Thursday, December 6th. Sign up for cash box help times!

Minutes for November 20th

Art GuiLD FULL THROTTLE!!!

What is the consensus for the display case next MONDAY ???

Stage/performance work. Fill the case more and more day by day.
--Do we have a concept as far as showing off our own artwork... or is it just art and art supplies, good art, bad art.... etc.

For the start of the display case lets bring back our old-school little- kiddie artwork and plaster the back wall with it.

Topher talked to Aaron McLeod about the group exhibit at the DAI.
Do we feel like we have a solid enough concept to present to David?
---we're thinking about doing this in February

Show your work at DTCU!

Duluth Teachers Credit Union (DTCU) offers an exciting opportunity for local artists to display their works in our lobbies each month.

We are looking for artists for the upcoming year for our 2 office lobbies.

We have the adjustable Walker Display system for hanging framed prints. We also have countertop/table displays for pottery and other forms of art.

Artists may have prices on their works but we ask that the potential buyer contact artist directly to process the sale.

We also contact the local papers to announce the show in our lobby as well as have a write up about the artist in our quarterly newsletter.

DTCU has a lot of traffic coming through our lobbies making this an excellent opportunity for the public to see artists’ works.

Anyone interested in displaying please contact
Brian at 218-722-9242 ext 210.

Sincerely,

Brian Thompson
Marketing/Communications Director

Meeting Minutes, Tuesday, Nov 13th

Great turnout for the meeting today with a lot to talk about. Some woman from an internship.. thing.. from the cities also stopped by and discussed with us some Higher education opportunities....

Today we had a great discussion about what is going to happen with us taking a trip to MPLS. I believe that we decided that IF we are going to go that we would like to go BEFORE the art auction (so as not to waste we $ we earn on a trip to MPLS and to save it for Chicago), however, it didn't sound like anyone had a reliable means to get down to the cities:

If you are interested in going and have a car, please let people know. I'm sure if not all of us can go, some of us would like to. possible sites of interest include:
- Soap Factory
- Walker (free admission every first Saturday of the month!)
- The Art Institute
- The Weisman
- etc

After the MPLS subcommittee had their say we moved into the greater discussion of the 3rd floor Humanities display case
We will be having an installation Monday, Nov 26th through Friday, Dec 7th (I think)
We mulled over a lot of different ideas during the meeting, but I believe that the one we landed on is described below. Any other ideas are COMPLETELY welcome, so please post anything other creative goodies:

We would like to do a direct reaction to the complete lack of space on campus. This will be an offshoot of what we accomplished last semester in the display case (it just won't get us in trouble!). We will be jamming the display case completely full (like the kind of full you feel after thanksgiving) with art. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, anything! Any and all crazy and useless art you have created over the many years at this institution jam-packed into that space!
Thoughts, comments, criticism is greatly appreciated.

If none. then please bring in art for next weeks meetings!

ALSO. lets get the zine pages in by friday!!!!!!!!!!

That is all the blather for now. see you all next week!
