Rochester Student Design Organization

I was thinking that a design mentorship with RCTC design students could be a possibility.... Roch design students pair up with a few RCTC students and give portfolio feedback, design advice, etc. (Don't you ever feel - if I knew then what I know now?)

I think that is a great idea Miranda. I believe all of us students think that every year we learn more, we all look back and think, "What was I thinking, I wish I knew what I did today!" Alot of students could benefit from this group and would be a good group to give feedback on our work as upper division students.

yes, this is a great chance for everyone to learn more, and get feedback, both sides. This will also get students from UMR in touch with students from RCTC, a relationship that is needed.

One thing that I would like to see happen is for us to as a group is to visit design firms around the Twin Cities. Learn what is happening in the "real" world work place of graphic design. This would be a great opportunity for both students and the design firms. Let them know that their is a legitimate BFA program here in Rochester for graphic design. They might be talking to potential employees and we might be talking to potential employers. If not around the Cities then maybe around here. We might also visit printing studios, Minute Man, Johnson Printing, etc.
What are people's thoughts on this?

I am a fully online major (taking digital art classes through RCTC right now) that would love to be involved in this organization in some way. I really like the idea of a mentorship with RCTC design students and would be very interested in being a part of that, so long as it could be via online obviously. To receive critiques, feedback, and other such advice from those that are further "down the road" would be very valuable to me!

it is my first year at RCTC and my major is graphic design so i would love to be involved in a group like this. I am also coaching so i would love it if we would meet on on mwf from 1-2 or th from 1-4 anytime from there. i would really like this to meet some new people get opinons, start a portfolio learn things from other employeers. please keep me updated!! This would really benefit me in many many ways!!

I think rsdo need a design mentor to help or give advised to freshmen/sophomore student about projects or design. Rsdo also help a student to get internship with a local design business.
