Heads up about loss of remote access some adjunct faculty
As you may have heard, AHC schools are reviewing their non-paid faculty appointments (which usually translates to community-based preceptors) in an effort to be mindful of the size of their cost pool. Each school is responsible for developing their own plan (i.e., no central AHC mandate) so schools may handle things differently.
Linda recently found out that the School of Nursing sent a letter to about 100 adjunct nursing faculty, changing their status to "affiliate," which does not include remote library access (thereby reducing the cost to the School). The SoN thinks that many of these individuals have library access through another appointment, or aren't using the access they currently have, so we aren't anticipating a huge fallout. But, if you get any calls at the reference desk about SoN adjuncts losing library access, you can direct them to the SoN Deans Office, care of Erica Goetzman, Assistant to Dean Delaney.
This is just an example from one school, but it is likely going on in other schools as well. As usual, if you get questions about loss of remote library access, you should refer people to their schools. The schools set the status in PeopleSoft, which is how remote access is allowed - we don't have control over it.
