Decoding the World Around Us

Throughout this semester in psychology, one unit in particular got my attention more than others, this being sensation and perception. The world around us is different for each and every person, all of us perceive the world in our own unique ways. I even watched a video earlier this week that pushed on the idea of God being within the neurons. This video got me thinking how much things require sensation and perception. The mind is complex and the parts of brain/body that are responsible for taking in the world around us. Sensation is everywhere. It dictates the way we see art, taste food, and act. It is what makes each and every person unique. Something that takes that much purpose in the lives of everyone on Earth, should be something of importance. Within the unit of sensation the one thing I found most interesting would be the end step within the process of sensation, sensation integration. This is the main event of how we take in the world around us. It controls our emotions and our actions in many senses as well. The final step, sensation integration, is the key to decoding the world around us.

Alright so I'm going to be honest. I only read your post because that video just seemed too interesting to pass up. It really was! Then I decided to read your post and completely agree with everything that was stated. Pretty much almost everything we do every day requires some sort of us using our sensation and perception, even at times when we do not realize it. This was a great post and thank you for that interesting video!

The idea of God (or any perceived deity and religious belief) existing exclusively within our neurons could apply to any concept or thought. Color, sound, shape, texture, and emotions are all created only within our minds. It's funny to think about, because I typically imagine those things as tangible - unseen but out in front of me, if that makes sense.

I find sensation and perception interesting as well. So much of our experiences are a result of these topics. Not one person senses and perceives the world the same, which is really mind blowing when you think about it. I could not imagine the world without any of the senses. You think you know how it would be but in reality you have no idea of the effects it would have to lose any of your senses.

It is crazy to think everything we experience is controlled in that noodle we call a brain. The idea of god being in our neurions seems way to broad....like couldnt we say any idea or feeling is in our neurons?

Interesting. One thing that I find really interesting is, considering how young science is, how much it already seems to support the concept of intelligent design. I'm a Christian myself, so I could be falling into a confirmation bias here, but stuff like the fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio really seem to point towards intelligent design.

This was a unit that was really stressed when I was in high school, so I took notice to it too when we were learning about it in this course. But I really enjoyed the video posted because it brought up lots of new perspectives

I really enjoyed the different viewpoint that you brought to the surface. it really makes you think about how others think i.e theory of mind.

The perception of all the phenomena that ocuur in our life to larger extent defines our attitude toward them, even defines us as individualities. The way you accept the events makes you the person you are, in fact. In order to change your life, you need to change your acceptance of it first.
