Volunteer Opportunities Working With Youth:

 

Drumming Circle Leader

Lead a facilitated drum circle that helps to focus the intent and improve the quality and effect of the drum jam.  Work with teens in the Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center in St Paul to create stress release, promote community and have fun together.  Must have knowledge of types of drumming circle formats and facilitating groups.
 
Valley View Elementary School Project

Join HandsOn Twin Cities in a Proctor and Gamble sponsored school make-over at Valley View Elementary in Columbia Heights on May 8th, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Help redo the landscaping at the school's entrance, cleaning and organizing the school's media center, and painting murals.
 
Study Buddy

Study Buddies is a youth mentoring and academic support program that provides one on one mentoring and academic assistance to school age residents of CommonBond Communities of St Paul.  Make an impact by helping with their schoolwork - and being a good role model.  Available at communities throughout the Metro area and Greater Minnesota.

 

Volunteer Opportunities for the Summer:

 

Summer Concert Escort

Enjoy the great music at the parks this summer while helping individual(s) with developmental disabilities from Hammer Residence Inc, in Wayzata.  Drive individuals to the park to enjoy the music or ride along with staff to help assist individuals while they are at the park listening to music.
 
Golfing Volunteers Needed

Vision Loss Resources of Edina works with people who have vision loss in the Twin Cities and they are holding How to Get Back to Golf classes for clients this spring.  Work one on one with a client to help them line up shots or find their ball as well as give encouragement and support.  Classes are the four Tuesdays in May from 10am until 12pm at Braemar Golf Course.  No knowledge of golf required.
 
Carousel Ride Operator

Volunteers at Cafesjians Carousel in St Paul work on and around the carousel. They operate the machine, greet & assist visitors, sell tickets & gifts, and share historic carousel information. Volunteers ensure a fun and safe time for all.  Shifts during the week and weekends.

Party Planner

Plan a Cheerful Givers house party where you will host a group of your friends and introduce them to Cheerful Givers.  We provide information and you or your guests provide food and entertainment.  Can be held at any time at your location.
 
Construction Skills

Use your construction expertise to help guide Goodwill/Easter Seals of Minnesota Construction Skills Training Program participants in the training shop and at construction sites in St Paul!  Work with the trainer to provide additional training support in all aspects of construction.  Should have extensive construction experience.
 
Friendly Visitor

Macalester-Groveland Living at Home/Block Nurse Program caring and compassionate volunteers help neighborhood seniors maintain their independence through supportive and friendly visits at the client(s) home in St Paul.  Visit client(s) regularly, refer them to staff as needed, and consult with staff as needed.  Requires orientation and in-service training.
