Adrenaline Miracle

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not feel pain? Aron Ralston in Aspen, Colorado did exactly this in 2003 in his inspirational story of survival in the mountains. In Chapter 3 it talks about adrenal glands that are located atop the kidneys in our bodies that act as our "emergency centers", for Aron they helped him stay alive and fight for his life after being stuck for 127 hours. Nerves of the nervous systems in our bodies signal the adrenaline glands to release adrenaline and allow people to perform incredible tasks.aron-rock.jpg
Although many of these feats have not been officially proven, many have occurred including Aron Ralston's unbelievable story of how his own adrenaline remarkably saved his life. Adrenaline can do a number of things for our body including: contracting our heart muscle to provide us more blood to the body, opening lungs to provide more air, break down fat to provide more fuel, breakdown of glycogen to energize our muscles, and even open our pupils to enable vision. We never are aware of the adrenaline in our bodies until the moment we need it. Our bodies are amazing and adrenaline only proves this even more.

Wow! Great blog, I only ever thought of adrenaline to give you crazy amounts of every. I never knew that it could open lungs to provide more air or provide more blood to the body. The body does amazing things and it is outstanding to know that someone could live for 127 hours while being stuck all because of the adrenaline our body give off. I was so intrigued by this article that I went ahead and read the articles you linked in the blog! Great job!

Very interesting! I've heard this story before, but never knew the vital role that adrenaline had in saving Aron's life. I can't believe that in this situation he had the will power to remove his own arm. I hope I never encounter a situation like this, but at least I know it's possible. What were the side effects of that much adrenaline running through Aron's body?

I actually did my first blog about adrenaline as well. I think the effects that high adrenaline levels can have on the body are remarkable. I read somewhere that a woman was able to lift a car to save her baby from danger. The story about Aron Ralston's survival while stranded for 127 hours is amazing. (The movie with James Franco is pretty awesome as well). Anyway, I think adrenaline is just one of the vast number of incredible functions our bodies have.

The story of Aron Ralston is truly amazing! Until reading the section about adrenaline in the book I never realized that adrenaline occurs in everyday situations as well. When the book talked about not being hungry before a test because of nerves, it mentioned that that had something to do with adrenaline! It's amazing how our bodies can sense when we are in danger or need something like this to occur and how they can make it happen.

Tell us a little more about Aron and what happened. How did adrenaline help?

This is a great story, it's a movie too if you were unaware! It's amazing that he lived through that and the fact that he cut is whole arm off because of adrenaline!! I don't know what I would have done in that situation.

I remember watching the movie about this story last year. I kind of have claustrophobic, so watching this movie wasn't that fun. Even though I watched this movie, I did not know that adrenalin is what saved Aron's life. I remember the part in the movie when Aron cut his arm to escape. Do you think adrenalin helped Aron bear the pain of cutting his arm? I agree that our bodies are really amazing.

I have also seen this before, it's a truly amazing story. I think it's crazy what our body can do with the assistance of adrenaline. I knew it increased blood flow throughout the body, but had no idea it was capable of expanding lungs and converting fat into energy. There are many other stories about how adrenaline has saved lives and they're all incredible.
