Taught in the classroom- Classical Conditiong.

One of the things that I will remember from my psychology class will be advertising and classical conditioning. While most everyone enjoyed the advertising component of class, I feel like five years from now it will especially stick with me as I choose to pursue a career in marketing. The idea of transcending an emotion from an image to a product is so brilliant and simplistic that it will be a good base for developing more elaborate ads. Furthermore, I believe that by having knowledge about advertising, it has made both my classmates and I better consumers and viewers of media.

I now play a game with myself when I watch television to see what kind of behavior the advertisers are trying to arouse out of the consumer. This game becomes seemingly easier all the time. One of my favorite commercials to use this with is the Kia Optima commercial where the man dreams of racing his Kia and being flagged by a scantily clad women. Since advertising has yet to fully steer away from this way of marketing, the future of marketing will be interesting as students such as myself are still taught this method of promoting.

This is a very interesting topic. It's good to related what we learned in class with your major. I am also impressed with the activity we did to make our own ad when we were learning classical conditioning.

I agree, this is a very interesting topic. Until this class, I never realized how many tricks there are in advertising. The Kia Optima commercial is absolutely a prime example of the psychology behind advertisements.

It's amazing how the marketing world has embraced the concept of classical conditioning. It's fascinating that pairing certain pleasurable items with a product can make it more appealing to the viewer. The next time I watch a commercial I'm going to try your game: finding the unconditioned stimulus, conditioned stimulus, and the targeted response.

I'm glad that it could be so relevant! I'll have to try your game too! :)

Interesting topic, I had thought about the topic of advertising techniques prior to the class however the course has made it apparent to me how influential classical conditioning can be on people. The more people that understand the underlying concepts in advertising the better.

The different persuasive techniques in advertising are very interesting. The idea that a simple television or print ad can try to arouse an emotional response from the customer can be extremely powerful in the marketing world.
