Educating people where they live and work about horticulture

Master Gardeners are University of Minnesota-trained volunteers whose job is to educate the public about a variety of horticulture subjects using readily-available, up-to-date research-based information. This educational effort is designed to enhance the public's quality of life and to promote good stewardship of the environment.

Anoka County Master Gardeners:

  • Educate adults by teaching classes at the Home Landscaping and garden Fair, the Walk in the Garden Series or upon request by local organizations

  • Educate youth in schools through the Junior Master Gardener program, the GAPS Challenge program and 4H programs

  • Provide landscape design and instruction for Habitat for Humanity sites

  • Answer residents' horticulture questions via the Yard and Garden Line phone service

  • Serve weekly throughout summer at the Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinics

  • Set up Ask A Master Gardener Booths at local garden centers, community events, Anoka County Fair and at the Nowthen Threshing Show

  • Assist with partnering organizations such as Great River Greening, local watershed districts, Anoka County Parks

  • Design and maintain the Anoka County Veteran's Peace and Master Gardener Demonstration Garden
